I don't think McLaren lied. That is stretching things too far. Ron Dennis was to blame for not knowing how far Ferrari stuff had been infiltrated into his car, but I don't think he lied. I still believe it was a witch hunt - had it been Ferrari instead of McLaren the fine and punishment would not have been the same - the FIA still believe that F1 can't live without Ferrari.

I don't think things will end there. The FIA are taking action against The Sunday Times. I don't expect New International to back down - indeed I think they will reveal stuff that will implicate the FIA. Mosley may be clever, but he now on the wrong side of the world's most powerful media mogul. I hope they screw him.

This is excellent news for the sport of F1 no matter what team you support!

The FIA and Ferrari have certainly shown a great level of class by pardoning mclaren for cheating and using Ferrari data on the mclaren 2007 and 2008 race cars.

Lets all just hope that Mclaren can actually stick to the rules in 2008!

This may be the greatest setup of all time. Now all Ferrai has to do is copy something from the 2008 McLaren and McLaren is out for the season.

I''m not necessarily a McLaren fan, but I think Max should of told Ferrari to take better care of their secrets. The current ruling opens up a Pandora''s box.

...don't forget Renault Nick!

This is obviously a good thing as it finally closes the matter but it does make things seem like it was more Max Mosely who wanted an apology or "respect my authritIII" ego kind of thing than any rules that needed to be checked.

gAg,

The important part to remember is that from day 1 Renault cooperated with the FIA. They did not try to hide anything. The FIA investigation found that it was one "stupid and naive" ex-mclaren employee who caused all the problems.

Mclaren LIED and Lied and Lied. They hid facts from the FIA. They hid sms and email messages from the FIA. Despite stating on numerous occasions that they are clean, Mclaren tried to use Ferrari data to develop the 2007 and 2008 Mclaren race car!

Ferrari and FIA are acting in the best interest of the sport.

Mclaren's apology and admission of guilt holds no value. More empty words from liars. The damage is done and Mclaren are only to blame!

Nick Knight is right. It should not take 6 months, two World Motor Sport Council hearings, a major forensic investigation with teams of lawyers and computer experts plus hundreds of thousands in costs, to get the truth from one of the Formula One teams.

McLaren misled the WMSC on 26 July and did it again on 13 September. In any other sport they would have faced a lengthy ban and the individuals concerned would have been out for life.

It's quite extraordinary that some of the F1 journalists seem still to be in denial about what has now been admitted by McLaren. It will be interesting to see what the Italian authorities do. Apparently prison sentences are a distinct possibility.

I wish we could go back a few years and the manufacturers breakaway had gone ahead. It was Ferrari that broke ranks and signed back with the FIA and since that moment they have been amply rewarded. One thing everyone seems to be trying to avoid is that the whole saga was started by a Ferrari employee for whom Ferrari was responsible. The precedent has been set can be used at any time. Email a rival team a picture of your car then call the FIA to remove your rival from the race. The only real outcome from all of this for me is that, after twenty years of fanatical support, I have left Ferrari behind. I have sold the last of my momentos (its been fun Mr Ebay) and the "Red Room" is empty.

Oh there there Nick nobody listens to you not even your beloved FIA. I can just see the tears rolling down your face and you mummy coming in with your favorite blanket to comfort you. Oh well we should see another excellent year of racing with Mclaren ron and that black guy that has got loads of talent, i think his name is HAMILTON. Don't worry i am sure your team will still get the backing of the FIA again next year.

WOW... do you really need to bring the color of his skin into this?!

I may not support Lewis but I would NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER take the arguement to his ethnicity or background. Sorry I am extremely sad at your comments!

F1 is an international sport. SPORT has no color!
