I think this is a silly move by Mercedes-Benz if true.

It can''t be denied that Dennis has kept McLaren at the front of the grid for the majority of his career, with a few years during the mid 90''s being the only point where they ran in the mid-field.

I don''t think Whitmarsh would do a better job, quite the opposite in fact.

F1 » Rumour mill claims Dennis fired

Has McLaren team principal paid the ultimate price for his mis-management of last year's spying row?

No doubt another bumper crop of cr*p is heading our way on this story! I wonder who the first to celebrate? It seems strange that a Spanish paper should beat all the other journo''s however? Perhaps more Spanish mischief making?

I for one have tremendous respect for Mr Dennis. His professionalism and dedication are an inspiration and I have absolutely no issue with his professional conduct. It'd be an honour to work with him

Mark Hendy, i think you are spot on there. Whilst the past year has been, to put it mildly, a PR disaster, i think that sacking Ron Dennis would be a big mistake. He is, as you said, completely dedicated and an inspiration.

loeb, was there any point in posting that? It was purely to wind up the Hamilton lovers and haters. More to the point, why did i expect anything other from you?

Here we go again..let the post-mortem begin!

But can we just keep it to a minimum? We've already gone through the whole debate of who did what and when. The season's about to begin and we don't have to put ourselves through a brand new debate and conspiracy theories. But maybe it's just wishful thinking. I for one won't be joining another such debate and I actually wish the racing was starting this weekend!

Non MC fans are going to have a field day with this one. They will be watching Lewis' reaction to losing his mentor, etc. I hope he doesn't provide them with more ammo when he opens his mouth again in his next press conference..probably today or tomorrow. Just concentrate on racing!

This will be interesting if it is true. Team Heiki will not be looking over their shoulders as much and waiting for team orders to move over, so he can drive flat out and go for the championship like any other Hamilton opponent. BUT will a stronger Heiki play into Ferrari's hands by taking away points from Hamilton?

The next few days are critical and will be a BIG test of Whitmarsh's management skills. We will see just how good he is, thrust into the spotlight, and without the buffer of a Ron Dennis. Luckily, he has a few weeks to come up with a championship-winning strategy.
