Wrong Chris B, it was not Lotus, it was AC, Jaguar and Aston Martin and several GT40 teams, road testing Cobra's, modified E's, etc before going to Le Mans. Lotus did all their testing at Hethel, Snetterton (and the occasional sortie along the A12!!!)

Although there was one Lotus 51 (F/Ford which was made road legal (lights etc) and sometimes seen around Hyde Park and King's Road in London.

I totaly agree that Silverstone should be upgraded, also the goverment should realise the contribution that Formula one plays, but if this design is the best they can come up with?!!! Looks like something out of the sixties that will crack and start to leak after a couple of years.
There are some fantastic British architects out there, look at the "sail" hotel in Bahrain. Don't want to sound negative, but come on, we can do a lot better than this surely?
I agree with Liam on this one, anyway roll on the 16th, can't wait!!

Cadwell is brilliant, by far the best circuit for drivers and riders in the UK. Just a shame it's too hard to get to. Brands is the same. Although it's just off the M25, the only big events that work there (50k+ spectators)are the bike ones because 90% of spectators turn up on bikes.

I don't care how you knock it, Silverstone has by far the best infastructure and platform to improve on for the future of UK F1, but I do think it's those god awfull mix-match grandstands that make the place look ugly. They could get away with leaving The race control and media centre and re-building the garages 2 or 3 storey I think. The roads can handle 150-200k spectators now, the track should too.

Andy - I largely agree with you, Silverstone is the only UK circuit that can host an F1 race. If the UK government can support the Olympics then it should support the further development of Silverstone. But don't hold your breath, they won't. Global warming and all that rubbish. But that wont stop the hypocritical ministers turning up to enjoy Bernie's hospitality at this years race.
You were joking about Cadwell? It's a great bike circuit, but F1? The cars are wider than the Cadwell track!

Great, another gin palace for the BRDC while those paying punters get to watch from the windswept and wet scaffolding stands yet again.

That'll do as long as King Bernie is Happy. What a waste of money for something that aint broke. It be nice if he put his hand in his pocket and fix it! I'm sure his fee will rise next season too. He keeps squeezing and banging those coffin nails in.

Yeah, the F1 at Cadwell remark was totally impossible. And I'm sure that even if they did widen the track, it would loose its charm.

Besides, I tried taking an F1 round Cadwell on rFactor and it aint happening!!!!

If silverstone is going to have big improvements made to it, then Bernie had better guarentee that Formula one will stay at silverstone for a very long time! Or it would be a waste of time money otherwise!

Nicely said Ferret..!!!
Going along those lines... Would it not be feasable, IF, Silverstone is to have money spent on it, to alter the run off areas etc, so that F1 could be run Anti-clockwise?
Just a thought..
