I think Ferrari could not afford Schu anymore and he was not willing to take a pay cut. I also think he was hurt by the reaction to the Monaco qualifying incident. It seemed like an opportunity to knock him. I doubt that any other driver would have been so openly condemned. Most drivers would have been given the benefit of doubt. Ever since the incidents with Hill and JV everything he did appeared to be tainted to a lot of fans. Compare that to Senna who in my opinion acted in a more calculated and pre meditated way. For some reason Senna got a pass and Schu was vilified.

I watched the Barcelona GP on Speed Channel, and during practice, Shumi was in the Ferrari garage shaking hands , and Massa, suited up to drive, literally walked thru Shumi , brushing past as if he wasn''t there. Shumi made a wry smile at this. I was surprised to read this article after that incident.

"making it more difficult to justify Germany having two seasonal slots on the calendar"

So how does BE justify having two GPs in Spain for the next few years.....

Oh yes, more money!

I wonder what ferrari has to say about this! It's not rocket science to imagine which driver they'd prefer there. I guess there's nothing wrong with speaking up about the truth, but I get the feeling Michael would have done Felipe and the team more good by keeping it to himself.

i admire schumi but this is a very poor "excuse". i think that he had just lost interest in F1 and to say this is pure convenience, rather than admit his lack of motivation.

edward, I didn't see the kind of smile, but isn't it possible that if Massa was just about to get in his car, he was "in the zone" and not in a frame of mind to chat?

To Andrew P.

Can't believe he was in a trance. His shoulder caught Schumacher's chest and bulldozed him out out the way. Maybe he thinks Massa will win the title and he's trying to make nice with this statement. Latin's have a chip on their shoulder and Massa's seems to be bigger than most.
