someone. as you said, stewart sold to ford, but isnt ford a manufacturer. jordan sold to midland, who went to spyker, who went to force india. therefore jordan, midland and spyker did NOT survive and even mallya is finding the going difficult. minardi couldnt survive and sold to RBR. RBR and williams are the ONLY "private" team able to survive competitively at present. but i do agree that it is a pity that privateers do not have much of a chance. i mooted a "privateers" championship within the overall cachet of F1, previously. i still think that this would work.

F1 » Privateers 'the heart of F1, not cannon fodder'

Privateer teams like Williams and Force India are the lifeblood of F1 and must be nourished for the future health of the sport, argues Mercedes-Benz Motorsport Vice-President Norbert Haug.

i tend to agree with you all in some ways, what does tick me off the most though is the way all the tracks are being tilked to go-kart style tracks and they all seem to be offering the teams the same type of challenge at every gp where as before the teams were going to a gp and trying to adapt their car's to the different track characteristics the venue held. i am really getting kind of bored with f1 at present and hope the new aero/slick's changes etc for 2009 will provide me with more entertainment otherwise i can see gp2 looking more to my liking

F1 has no heart and hasn't done for years. Character and a sense of personality has long gone. The great circuits of the world are slowly being transformed into identikit go-kart tracks, personality in the drivers is now frowned upon. As for the 'racing' - sterile processions. Too much emphasis on money and technology, to the detriment of what F1 was supposed to be - the pinacle of motor 'racing'.

F1 has reached an impasse. It has to change, and it has to change fast. The privateer teams dissapearing is just another element of where F1 has lost it's way. Some say it's progress - is it really?

Ecclestone and Mosely are poison to F1's future. The sooner they vanish, the better.

Correct me if I am wrong...didn't Prost, Arrows and Super Aguri go to the wall in recent memory - not to mention that in 1994 only Ferrari was a total works team, out of 14(?) teams...now we have 6 out of 10 being manufacturers - the influx of manufacturer interest in teams, for better or worse killed the little guy and F1 should just hope that they remain the flavour of the month that they are today...

SOMEONE is totaly right in what he wrote and NORBERT HAUG IS TOTALY WRONGE
yes i too think that the independent teams are vital what NORBERT HAUG did not say is that the car manufacturers tend to use them as fodder,
the manufacturers are not in F1 to make money so when they feel they have reached there objective they will drop out as fast as they came, and when they feel the need they will be back,i have seen this many times since the 1950,i must say that they did a lot for FI too but also that they very nearly killed FI this time by there high spending POWER'

That's wrong Stewart sold to Ford, Jordan Grand Prix sold to Midland and Minardi sold to Redbull so none of them went “to the wall”
