I don't think the safety car made the race humiliating - the botched pit-stop, followed by Massa and Raikkonen's driving did that I think. It is very easy to blame someone else for your own problems. After all, they couldn't exactly leave Piquet's car there!

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has claimed that the Singapore Grand Prix 'night race' did little for F1's image.

No matter how dull or dreary the sg race may be, those comments are just too unsporting... A real slap on their own faces.

They should learn more from Dr Mario Theissen:

Dr. Mario Theissen, BMW Motorsport Director:
"Another spectacular chapter was added to the Formula One history book. The first night race was a total success. My compliments go to the organisers. The race itself was turbulent and influenced by the first safety car period. Unfortunately the safety car rule meant Robert was completely out of contention in the race, whereas Nick was able to stay out just long enough until the pit lane was reopened....

contd...

"This was a shame for Robert because he was well on his way to score important points for the championship standings. By finishing sixth Nick made up three positions and scored three points. Everything didn't go according to plan either for our direct competitors as, apart from Nick, out of the top six only Lewis Hamilton scored points. Congratulations to Renault and Fernando Alonso for the win in this exciting race."

kudos to BMW!

I wondering what Mr Montezemolo was saying to everyone Sat. night after the ferrari's were 1 and 3 on the grid? I loved the fact that they choked the way they did and that the stewarts are being watched now by the racing world hence the drive thru for Massa, for us here in the states we have our own circus he is called Al Davis bonehead owner of the Raiders poor Oakland fans! Petite LeMans go Flying Lizards, I think I'll go watch the race just to see that green light again! :)

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo : "When you race on a track that would work better as a circus ring or something along those lines, anything can happen..."

If Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen are racing on tracks which should be used for the circus, we need clowns at the Ferrari pit-stop to entertain us before anything can happen.

What a "sour grape" sore loser!

Any series where yellow periods are "introduced" to ensure no one driver runs away with a race, where cars that show a marked advantage are handicapped to equalise performance is manipulated. Nascar freely admit they are there to put on a show for the fans and TV etc - and commercially it works. But compare it to how it used to be in the 60's where they truly were "stock cars" funded and raced by the manufacturers, and it's completely different. Not surprisingly, although "over there", I'm not American. Oh, and by the way, a lot of areas outside the "good ol' boys" states will agree with this...

i dont want to sound rude or anything but what you are saying is by throwing a yellow flag for a crash or debris on the track when cars are doing close to 200mph to stop someone leading is manipulating a race i think that if you think like that then it applies to all forms of motorsport.
accept F1 as they apply penalties after the race to fix a championship how wrong is that as massa only received his drive through because he was last and made no difference to him if he was nearer the front it would have been a different story i believe.
anyway thats motorsport nobody is going to agree with all the decisions made regarding penalising someone no matter what they like watching

now im a big ferrari fan, but i have to say singapore was spectacular, i dont think the cars have ever looked so spectacular, it fully showed what f1 was about and perhaps the race wasnt too exciting without piquets crash but there was overtaking which is more than can be said for other circuits and the cars with the sparks and flames looked stunning

what was humiliating tho was ferraris complete and utter balls up of the entire weekend a case of sour graps from mr montezemelo which is a shame cos the race and event was a smashing suceess i thought

It wasn't funny on sunday because I was concerned one of the crew had been injured, but I've downloaded the whole pitstop onto my phone and I've laughed so much my cheeks are aching. Especially the pit crew sprinting down the pit lane. Does anyone know if there is footage of the McLaren crew cheering them on? That would be priceless. Lets all just prey that at the next GP, we don't miss Ferrari pitstops due to adverts.
