Have Lewis give a drivers class on how to do it. He seem to be the only one with the balls to pass people now. However, that will change since the Ferrari IA penalizes people for passing. Drivers don't want to take the risk. If the pass is illegal, review it quickly and tell the driver to let the person he passed back by. SIMPLE. Don't make an environment where drivers are afraid to pass.

Dan & George, I have yet to read any comments from drivers that they fear of getting penalized by the FIA for passing. If I have missed some then please set me straight. It seems that the Spa penalty is being used as an excuse for drivers not passing. Well that was only a few races ago what is the excuse for the races prior to Spa? Or do you guys think that this is a new problem since Spa?

The rule changes for next year are pretty radical with the slick tires and the rear wing that seems more appropriate on a kart. Until we know how those changes play out we will have to wait and see. Too many changes may cancel the positive effects for overtaking.

George nobody wants to ruin your day.

Already gonna happen:

1) Slicks
2) New aero regs

All they need now is to allow flexi wings to mix things up.

Mark_ Well spotted, you are right here, posters here are basically supporters of "certain driver" and are trying to create impression as though,SPA penalty is end of the world for clean overtaking.

In new world of Aero dependent cars, I have given enough examples of Drivers making spectacular overtaking moves. Albeit they were far and few to come. but they did happen. It was not as if there was Darkness all around and Messiah appeared 2007 and walked on water of overtaking. and that evil forces are out to get him down and preventing overtaking.

Scared

Completely agree with you (incidentally I used to be motor racing enthusiast in the 50's but have been bored with it for more years than I care to remember). Technology has overtaken F1 (Overtaken? - some of you may have to look that up!). - The drivers now believe the nonsense written about them in the media and judging by many of the comments one reads, so have the punters who follow the sport. - Do yourselves a favour folks, if you want to see motor racing, follow the two wheeled variety where the majority of the competitors earn a fraction of an F1 drivers salary and you'd be amazed the different faces you can see on the podium

And once again I am here to remind you that the most frequent and accurate overtaker in F1 today is not Alonso or Hamilton but the rather under-fire Nick Heidfeld. Don't believe the hype. And as someone pointed out, Hamilton was by no means the most aggressive driver during the Singapore GP. I too was impressed by Nico, who is normally a very balanced racer, and Kaz, who is normally more hot-headed but kept it together nicely this time. F1 is still entertaining and I agree with Mark there - Too many changes will only make it difficult for the teams and they may end up being counterproductive. I honestly think next year's regs will improve things a lot.

Hey Dan H- Great point on the teams no longer being alowed to use technology as a chance to succeed. I think that all temas should be alowed to interperet the rules an develope cars that introduce new devices or technology. What they should do is ban teams using one anothers tech, for example McLaren has the J-damper and was instructed that in order to use it they must share how it works with the rest of the teams. If lets say they developed it first then it is their secret and theirs alone and then lets say Ferrari gets to keep there moving floor and Renault uses there Mass Dampener they had in 2006 and so on. Allow inovation to dictate passing, not equal cars with uniform design. JMHO.

Hamilton is the best in proper overtaking? Excuse me, but Gilles Villeneuve is head and shoulders above any drivers, anytime, anywhere. Remember Dijon 79 (where he battles with Arnoux for the final 2 laps) and Zandvoort 79 (where he rounded outside of Alan Jones)? That's what you call the real overtaking...

So they want to bring more thrills & spills into F1 & they think the key is in overtaking. The FIA must be wearing blinkers. Max & the FIA took the fizz out of F1 years ago.

Redesigning a car is not going to encourage more overtaking if you have circuits like Monaco. You need a motor-cross to overtake in Monaco. Redesigning the cars is only going to cost more money & time, just like night racing. And they want to cut cost right?

Sacking Max & Bernie & overhauling the FIA may bring back some glitter to F1 racing.

Amen Powerline, you are 100% correct. Take the stupid politics out of racing and put the competition back.

And for Zero's comment, I will agree and also add that I dont think there is a driver out ther today that can do what those drivers did in the past. I will give Hamilton is good by todays standards but if by chance there was a way to bring all of the greats back from their glory days and put them in equal, non tech cars Hamilton wouldn't stand a chance. Hamilton is very good at overtaking these days but in days of old guys died a lot more in the sport and still took chances, from that standpoint their balls were bigger than any Hamilton or anyother from now will ever have.
