To be honest I think Piquet in his hurry to get into F1 went for the wrong team...Renault invest almost everything into Alonso and Piquet is left with the scraps - well from where I sit anyways...also dont think Alonso's experience at Mclaren have helped either, dont think he would have bent over backwards to be a great help to Piquet - obviously thats me just speculating

F1 » Rosberg: Piquet 'achieving nothing at all' in F1

1982 F1 World Champion Keke Rosberg - whose son Nico currently races for Williams, the same team with whom he claimed the crown - admits to being mystified by former GP2 Series vice-champion Nelsinho Piquet's struggles in the top flight in 2008, insisting: "Something is wrong there."

Yeah don't really agree with Keke on this one. Remember Nico's first year with Williams in 06? Ok the car was crap but he only scored about 5 points and retired about 10 races. Piquet has gone well on occasions. He's in the same boat as Bourdais, on good days, he's fast and on the cusp of scoring points but on bad days the car is not there or he bins it. Don't get me wrong I like both of them, I just hope they have a good end to the season.

Don't think Renault is the right team for Piquet. With Alonso there I don't think Renault would notice if Piquet didn't turn up at all.

I don't think he'll ever be a Senna or a Schumacher but given time I think he can do well.

He spent a year as a 'test driver' which under the current regulations mean you hardly drive at all.
I don't think a year's testing is a good idea - Heikki had similar problems. Not as extreme but then he'd had, I think, about three times as much time in the car as a tester. And he wasn't up against Alonso.

You can only throw so much money at developing your son as a racing driver - much of the rest is down to being in the right team, having a good car, a good manager and mentor. There is a long queue of drivers waiting in the queue for seats and yet again if you dont perform there is always some young hot shot who will take your ride next year.

Perhaps he should try the IRL - lots of Brazilians make a living there ! :)

huhmmm....isn't he a former mulitple WRC? well he views of this rookie is very interesting. but more interesting is the comparative performces between piquet/alonso and hamilton/alosno...clearly puts into perspective lewis' brilliance and natural talent into context. i'm not lindly following by the way. i am mking a comment that can withstand the rigours of inspection thru comparison and common references.

1) Silent runner, I doubt Keke Rosberg even raced in WRC once... He was a hugely talented monoseaters driver, with historical performances in F2, or on underpowered machinery like the Theodore F1 car, and finally late in his career he got a good seat and obtained a well deserved (though lucky) world title in 1982, when Gilles Villeneuve and Didier Pironi dominated the season but were sidelined by accidents...

OK Keke's season was less brilliant, but remember he was driving an aspirated Ford Cosworth, whereas Ferrari and Renault had much more powerful turbo engines.

2) Crash, please add "Keke" before Rosberg or "Sr" after in the title, because one could think it's Nico's words...

i appreciate the qualification with regards to keke rosber..i could have googled it but it wasn't really that important to me. the crux of my post was the relative differences in driver abilities/qualities which was a natural tagent to the topic. many look at lweis' achievements and sight car, partner setups etc...but we now can use piquet as a direct comparison, and if memory serves me correct, this time last year most, informed pundits, had lewis down for the WDC not speculating who would replace him!!!!
burt thanx gain for the heads-up on rosnerg Sr
