The brazen cheek of this despicable man is unbelievable!

He should have resigned!

He has brought his sport into disrepute and he is a laughing stock.

Shame on you Moseley.

F1 » Mosley seeking tougher media privacy laws

FIA President Max Mosley is to ask the European Court of Human Rights for stricter media privacy laws in the wake of the News of the World's damaging publication of his involvement in a sex scandal earlier this year.

When I first heard this story broke I actually had to laugh and thought to myself, bloody hell fire, Max Mosley is still getting it at 68 good on you Sir, despite it being a little walk on the wildside. But seriously while I expect that there is a privacy element, there is also a right to known element as it has to be found whether or not he had been placed in comprismising position (which he was not in case the legal eagles are reading) which could affected his work at the FIA.

Let's say, for arguments sake that there was some form of "Sting" involved in Max's outing. It doesn't really change anything. And if there's not any sting, beyond the papers looking for a story and an "insider" looking for easy cash, the situation was still the same - Max's hobby was ripe for exposure - or worse.

I really can't see how privacy plays a huge role in this. It may be ethically wrong, but what if it wasn't a red-top newspaper who got their information on Max, but somebody who could blackmail Max? Get a contract or who bunged his way. Its like papers doing exposures of bomb security - The News of the World did the FIA a favour, in exposing a weakness.

barry, you are sad. you seem to love to see your name in print. you hit at me because i stand up for a person's right to privacy. i make no moral judgement on the facts. the thread is about PRIVACY. even BE has said that the sting was orchestrated by a person in F1. Mosley has said that he is accumulating proof, so lets wait an see. further mosley did NOT caue a threat to "children and family" and had the media not tried to make headlines, nobody would have been any the wiser, and no harm done. i am not surprised that your posts ae being blocked. they are vitriolic.

So far this is what Max has done for F1 & motorsports racing in 2008 - getting caught with his pants down. Privacy laws are not created for someone to cheat on their spouse. In this case, Max's wife is either too greedy or too ashamed of Max to leave the sex fiend. Max failed the most important test, i.e. the test of good character. No privacy laws in the world can help Max to gloss over his loss of character.

I am a member of the Libertarian party in the US. However, it doesn't serve the cause of civil liberties to promote illegal activities under the guise of "privacy". What other crimes are OK if you do them in private? People who want to advance the concepts of privacy protection should not be so obviously self-serving as Herr Mosley.

Barry may be drinking tonight, but his totalitarian view will only become more popular if it is understood that blatant criminal self-interest is what underlies laws that protect civil liberties, rather than principles of fairness, etc.

Observer what are you trying to hide it's like the old "I dont believe in identity cards syndrome" if you dont like the idea of the I.D. cards what have you got to hide from all of the rest of us. Some ilicit past i reckon (MP'S TOTTIES) and my opinion on this goes as far as MP'S and all the rest who object to it (WHAT HAVE YOU GOT TO HIDE MP'S) if youre ok and a solid member of the comunity then you have nothing to hide
