It was obviously going to go: there's been overtaking there in past years... :)

So a track where there is overtaking potential is dropped. Why not drop the tedious Hungaroring instead?

Yikes...Yet another circuit that has always provided great races in the past and one with one of the nicest atmospheres surrounding the race gone.

And all this while Spain has 2 races on probably the 2 most boring tracks on the calender, Hungary is always boring and none of the Tilke circuits provide any racing atmosphere for the real fans who actually buy a ticket for themselves and their families instead of lounging in some VIP box on the company's expense. You know, those people that give F1 the right to exist.

In the long term this will inevitably hurt F1, but obviously Bernie knows he'll be long gone by then and decided he needed some extra millions for whatever.

Such a stupid move by Ecclestone, some of the best races have been in Canada... it's a driver's circuit, difficult to master and always provides entertainment. Don't know what to say, they ruined Hockenheim and ditched Imola and Suzuka. I wonder if Spa and Monza will be next in line to make way for a nice flat, smooth tilke circuit in the middle of nowhere.

Sad day as the race and the city of Montreal always put on a great weekend of racing and partying. I will miss it.

"North America?! Those people only care about Nascar and themselves. Good riddens."

It's obvious you know little about North America. Canada is definitely different from the U.S. The Canadian GP was supported by knowledgeable and sophisticated fans that were unlikely to be NASCAR fans. Montreal is an interesting and cosmopolitan city that is world class. Before you attack a country maybe you should know something about it. Come and visit sometime and see for yourself. Then again, you probably wouldn't like it as Montreal has a distinct French flavour and you probably hate the French as much as you seem to hate Americans.

I hope that the Canadian Goverment bans the showing of the Formula 1 on all TV programes in Canada , this has nothing more to do with sport.

For banditfan

Thank you so much! I am canadian and living in Australia and I am sick and tired of uneducated idiots making comments about america and just grouping canada in. This comment and this annoucement has made me so angry I could go on for ever.
Don't forget also, Australia only has its grandprix still because they gave into the demands of bernie to make it another night race!
At the end of the day, F1, like all racing is a business. It has nothing to do with history or safety or quality of racing. Its about the dollars and old Bernie is just following the dollars. it is a sad day for F1.
