F1 » French GP joins Canada on 2009 F1 scrapheap

First Montreal, now Magny-Cours - the next F1 season has been reduced by another race as it is announced that the French Grand Prix will be joining the Canadian Grand Prix as a 2009 absentee.

Maybe they can run the next race in empty skyscrapers in Abu Dabi? Got to be some use for them...

Oil is down to $70/bbl. Don't fool yourselves peeps, the Arab money is about to dry up just like the Euro and "almighty" dollar. At some point in the near future, races will again be held in places that feature one important missing item lately - spectators. Third world countries will realize that they are not going to better themselves with foolish displays of giving Bernie and Max million$. Everything is a cycle, from elections to politics to auto racing.

More organisers should turn round to Bernie and FOM and tell him where he can go, then he'll be left with no decent venues and his business will be worth a tenth of what it is now.

Why don't organisers realise that it is them who have the power, not Bernie!

Definately not B - ever been to Donington? Crap facilities, most British tracks are awful to visit and use the facilities of, but the track itself is usually pretty good.

Magny has much better facilities, but the tracks a bit....iffy

I''m sure Bernie has his (financial) reasons but personally I''m sick of hearing criticisms of Magny Cours. Having been there for an F1 GP I found it great fun with great facilities and a hugely entertaining camp site. There was a great GP weekend topped off with a fab race with Schumi passing Raikkonen on the last lap to take the win. Maybe the new breed of fan requires 5 star accomodation with ensuite, or maybe they watch purely on TV but I think F1 has been ignoring the views of the paying attendees at GP weekends for too long.

its all startin to go belly up in most of the world apart from asia and the UAE. perhaps bernie is just movin with the time and trying to put on a show for us all instead of scrapping it all.

Bugatti is definitely not up to F1 standards: it's hardly interesting for motorcycle racing, so you can easily imagine how boring it would be with F1...

F1 has become a global show, with mainly TV audience (onsite spectators are only for ambiance shots, not for money) so wherever the race takes place, there will still be manufacturers willing to use F1 as a showcase, even of there is not a single event remaining in Europe.

There will be a crisis only if the show keeps on being boring, and if the TV audience decreases. I have to say the show could be better on a new track lost nowhere in the middle east, designed for overtakings, than at Magny Cours or Bugatti...

How about a race at Le Mans on the bugatti circuit, would be good for f1 to have the le mans and there's easy access unlike magny cours

Good to see France not giving in to Bernies financial demands, Although most races in the future will be in the Middle East to cream the oil money for Bernie.
I can't see the major manufacturers staying in the present set up for too long as they want the commercial benefits of racing in Europe and especially North America.
