Why not go back to what they do best - building good engines. Leave the racing to the racers - i.e. Williams. The Japanese always achieved their best results as engine providers. And the technology spin-off from F1 engines will surely be relevant to an assault on Le Mans.

Whilst Williams is my fav F1 team, and losing Toyota would seriously hurt them due to their engine supply....

Best decision Toyota could make. They''re doing rubbish in F1, none of their road cars are sporty or reflect their motorsport activity. It''s pretty much a waste. They are always going to need to scratch that Le Mans itch until they win it (hence why Mazda hasn''t been back!).

Maybe if F1 lost a few big hitters, the FIA would stop playing silly-buggers and things would improve long-term? Not that Toyota are big hitters....

Out of interest sennaforever - did you/do you race GTR2? I remember racing someone with your name around Laguna Seca and Monza before I got tired of publics and got into league racing. :D

The single engine rule is at least stupid... the engine is at the heart of F1, can you imagine a "Ferrari-Renault" or Renault-Toyota???

Yeah, bring back the hairy chested sports cars like the Porsche 917 good for 130 mph. Leave the F-1 cars to the gear heads. But seriously, Toyota could be engaging in physiological warfare just as the FIA is floating the one engine supplier rule. But for a team like Toyota, they really ought to try something else and the return of all the big names to Le Man will reignite the glory days of Sports car competition. F-1 is at a dead end.

ed, there is a little bit of sense in the standard engine suggestion. audi and merc are happy to use this in DTM so i can see no problem from merc and other car manufacturers here. i think that merc get more commercial exposure from DTM than from F1. it is a shame if toyota go as they had improved considerably this year. maybe they would take on the standard engine supplier role??
