I assume you are being sarcastic when you say Jean who. He was regarded as one of the most talented rookies ever in the sport as he showed numerous times in his early years and particularly when it was wet.

He could have been world champion had he decided to join Williams instead of Ferrari when he had the chance to do so. The fact he chose Ferrari over a far superior team shows how much he loves them and understands what Ferrari is all about. Therefore, he is a perfect person to comment on the situation.

F1 » Alesi backs Ferrari threat to quit F1

Former Canadian Grand Prix winner Jean Alesi has added his support to Ferrari, claiming the Scuderia would be 'right' to leave F1 should the FIA pursue its 'absurd' standardised engine idea for 2010.

Jean WHO?

Not to pick on poor old Alesi (trying poorly to look young) but I think everyone except poor old whipped-a$$ Max and Bernie the Gnome support all EVERY manufacturer pulling out with a mono powerplant F1 directive.

It rather becomes an oxymoron if F1 cars all have the same engine.

Slow news day ......

Ahem. At the risk of incurring your wrath. Alesi could never have been champion. He was a model of inconsistency and emotional upheaval.

jean "WHO" one of the most talanted rookies in the sport, well tell us all what he did with his talant absolutly nothing he was in the sport for the women he could get and the high wages the same as the likes of coulthard who were basically hangers on in the sport to get what money they could before they got to embarrassed to try and sit in a racing car and drive it fast. They are all an ambarrasment to anyone who believes in motorsprt and a driver pushing their car to the limit.

Schumi - sounds like fun to me. I could live with the embarrassment label for the money and the babes that these two got, not to mention getting to participate in F1. Don't hate just because you got Frentzen's hand me downs (i.e. Corina).

Jean Alesi or not, Max & the FIA have shot themselves in the foot. Wish they've shot themselves in the head instead, & very much earlier.

WHY OH WHY DO PEOPLE HAVE NO LONG-TERM MEMORY?

Here's a little healthy reminder: It is very common to think that some of the latter years' rookies, notably Vettel and Hamilton, are soooo sensational and that the older guys like Barrichello and Fisichella should step down and allow new talent to enter F1. It is also commonly said, over and over again, how guys like Hamilton and Vettel are future world champions, future stars etcetera, even future MULTIPLE world champions. Yet guys like Alesi get no respect at all. Check his Wiki page for starters. I think it's safe to say that Alesi was the Vettel of his time. The man is a LEGEND. If you're too young to know anything about him...

then at least take your time to look up who he was before you start bashing. Alesi was sensational, but for various reasons the WC title never happened. Quite a fascinating story really, you should read it. And as for Hamilton, the only really valid comparison to make in terms of rookie achievements would be Villeneuve, who won the title in his second season. After that, he was always at the wrong place at the wrong time and was constantly slagged off for being too old and past his day - people were even saying he never was all that good. If you choose to only look at the results, then quite frankly there are only a handful drivers each season who have a decent shot at the title.
