F1 ringmaster Bernie Ecclestone explains comments he made that seemed to condone racist abuse towards the sport's newly-crowned, first-ever black world champion Lewis Hamilton were misconstrued.

Is Bernie back tracking on his comments or did the journos just misinterpreted what he said? I don''t know but at least he clarified his position which was the right thing to do.

As I said elsewhere this is all being drummed-up by the British press and L.H himself because of the realisation of the way the WDC was won [ with a fraction of luck] they are now realising that as the [the FERRARI president said] he was really saved

As expected. On the topic of racism, real or imagined, there is only one acceptable action in the public eye, make a firm and often thoroughly redundant statement against racism. Anything else is a losing proposition, regardless of the actual circumstances. ZZZZZZ off season here we go....

Well, in Spain it's business as usual, still. Racism is so deeply ingrained in Spanish society I think they find it normal. I've been living in Madrid for a bit over 4 years now, and I'm still slightly shocked sometimes with what goes on around here. For example, there was a story on 20minutos dot es today about some Renault engineer saying next year car's will be fitted with the most powerful computer on the F1 grid, and the first comment on the story is:

"Esto acerca a Alonso al tricampeonato mundial y la humillación del ***** llorón."

which translates to: "This puts Alonso closer to a 3rd world title, and humiliation for the cry-baby ******".

Appalling.

As I predicted elsewhere, BE does his usual 180-degree about face before the weekend is out. The guys spins faster than Massa at a wet Silverstone :)

I just love his comment about 'black people' coming up and thanking him for Lewis being in F1. Thats just a dressed up 'I'm not racist - some of my best friends are black people' comment. Berk.

@Summy Stivala - I've read a lot of your posts. They depress me.

just get rid of the TWO spanish grand prix's for a few ye**** don't know why they need two anyway as Velencia was a load of rubbish as a track anyway also barcelona not much better then these racist idiotic third rate noobs might think again if F1 doesnt go to their country. also what the crowd done towards lewis and his family at brazil i thought was disgusting you cant say it wasnt racist because we all know if it was any other driver then nobody would be talking about this. there is no need for racist remarks from anyone and the bigist point to make is that probably most of it is done through jelousy

QUENTIN what the crowed did in Brazil towards L.H and family [booing] was normal it's worth remembering the taunts and offensive banners that used to await ARTON SENNA at Silverstone when he use to beat NIGEL MANSELL or D.H and what about the cheers when SCHUMACHER broke his leg in 1999 BRITISH GP the less said the better because the BRITISH have their share of dirty laundry
