I can't see why they didnt give someone else a test. Piquet has been rubbish all year. I really thought he would have out qualified or raced Alonso at least a few time - but no !. Goes to prove how good Hamilton was against Alonso.

Jim - Isn't Renault example the fact, they have handled two drivers who had good GP2 career in Heikki and Piquet and both of them struggled despite of Test Roles under their belt. To Heikki's defence The 2007 car was fundamentally different from 2004-2006 car at Renault, as the FIA had deemed Mass dampers illegal after Renault had used them without any objection from FIA and Competitors for 2+ yrs. Piquet got the test role in 2007, when All F1 teams had agreed to reduce test miles to save cost. which meant Fridays and Test days the Race drivers were more on the track that test drivers. Lewis is Superfast driver, but still McLaren "Simulator" Product. These are nothing but facts.

Hambone,

"Young drivers need time and the best example of that is Renault."

Speaking of facts, was that not your statement?

I rest my case.

FYI, I neither a supporter of or detractor from Lewis Hamilton.

Jim Clausen - Ever Heard about McLaren Car that was so fragile pre 2007, but has never broken down in 2007-08 and Has been the "Fastest Car" on the grid... And didn't I mention Hours and Hours of Simulator time which McLaren could provide him. The Lad knew every bump and every track gradiation even before he set foot on Track at Melbourne'07.

Admiration is fine.. but get the facts correct please !!!

by a newcomer in just a few races. With Reduced test times,it will become more and more difiicult for F1-wannabes sufficient test time in F1 car under their belt. FIA can make some good use of the monies it has collected through random fines on teams and drivers and provide State of Art F1-Simulator for the Aspiring drivers. Williams and McLaren have the best F1 simulators in their factories, maybe they can use it for commercial use. It can help get more “better adapted” drivers to the grid

Young drivers need time and the best example of that is Renault. Last year it took Kovalainen half a year to sort his problems out. This year it was the same with Nelson Piquet. Both of them had reasonable testing experience of F1 car before they arrived in Formula One. Albeit Piquet didn't had as much luxury as Heiki
Drivers like Senna, di Grassi, Grosjean or Buemi have almost no experience in these cars compared to that. That shows that the testing rules need to be modified to help young drivers learn the basics. The risk of taking them on board has become just too big. Drivers like Glock, Piquet or Bourdais have learnt so much in their first season that it can never be matched

I agree that Piquet is VERY lucky to keep that seat!

I'd like to seee Di Grassi, Senna in F1 next year, they look the best of the up and comers. Unfortunately looks like Buemi will get one of their seats. (Remind me what has he done? Nothing, yet.) and Grosjean will possibly get the Renault seat in '10, i hope some of F1's senior citizens will step aside, Button, Barrichello, Fisi, give it up! No F1 championship for you!
