Seriously, what the hell does Bourdais have to do? He''s a multiple champion accross the pond, had some really good performances towards the end of the season and yet they were trying to get Piquet & fat boy Montoya to replace him. Seriously Mr Red Bull/Mr Burger he has done better than quite a few under achievers (Button, Fisichella, Piquet, Webber to name a few) who have already retained their seats. Stop ******* around and re-sign him.

F1 » STR reveal failed pursuit of Piquet, Montoya

Franz Tost has admitted that Scuderia Toro Rosso looked into the possibility of signing Renault rookie Nelsinho Piquet and former McLaren and Williams star Juan-Pablo Montoya for the 2009 F1 season - only to be rebuffed by both.

Yea, even Vettel was struggling with the lopsided braking towards the end of the season, so I don't see how they can claim lack of confidence in himself. The car yes, for technical reasons...
Rubens should be kept on at Honda. Sato, really shouldn't be in F1. Montoya similarly (good as he could be, he could also be shockingly bad, and arrogant about his driving). And going with someone totally inexperienced in the second seat would be a bad move too.

Sigh.

Its going to be the number of sponsors dollars that the driver brings with him which will dictate who drives in 2009, for this team more than most. That unfortunately may well mean we have to once again suffer seeing the mobile roadblock named Sato underperforming at the back of the pack, punctuated by unpredictable idiotic moves to stop a quicker driver getting past even though it ruins the race for both of them. Sato is not up to F1 quality and should try another career. Please Mr Burger pick anyone but Sato.

While JPM's over aggression was blasted by all and sundry (most of whom are armchair critics), well when you get consistent results out of those agressive moves and more importantly "Your team is behind you 100%" you get Hamilton. JPM has been unfortunate when it comes to 100% team backing and "reliable" equipment.
For someone who could drive the dog of Williams 2004 car to victory in Brazil, JPM has nothing to prove to those who doubt his "Race winning" skills.
This one comes from a Die hard Williams Fan for one. If only Williams had groomed his race winning instincts well, Another of those "what could have been" tale Alas.

One needs to admire him for sticking his guns though, lesser of driver would have jumped the opportunity. He has showed loyalty towards Chip Gannassi by this decision, hope they repay his trust well. So far the car (and team) they have provided him has been a bust. Not to mention the current credit crunch may bring NASCAR to its knees as well. Admire his Courage for that, but then thats JPM, Man driven by heart, true racer to hilt, take it or leaveit .....
On lighter note - Berger/Tost are known for their neck wringing ways in dealing with drivers who "speak their mind". Good for you Juan :)

Unfortunately being 4 times champion in Champ Car doesn't mean much in F1 and if you have an average to poor season you don't go far. Remember Zanardi in a Williams in 1999 - twice champion in the US.

As to JPM - why make a prat of yourself by signing for a team at the back when you have already burnt all your bridges with Mclaren. I'm sure JPM would get back into Indycar for Chip if he failed in Nascar - its about ****'s with JPM

I don't get what STR is doing? They are unsatisfied with Bourdais because he's underperforming, but on the other hand want to sign Piquet who was in disastrous shape in 2008? Sebastien had a tough life, especially because Vettel-STR03 combination was quite unbeatable due to some reasons. But (to cite JPM) "u have to be either blind or an idiot" to not see the turnaround Bourdais achieved throughout the end of the campaign. When I imagine a lineup as Sato-Buemi, Barichello-Buemi, Montoya-Piquet, I really get sick. Which kind of step forward would THAT be?

Please STR, confirm Bourdais for 2009 and wait for Senna's decision...

I think One Pablo would only return if Ferrari would call him and offer him a drive. One of the reasons he gave for leaving F1 was that he disliked the fact that the performance you can achieve so greatly depends on the car you're in, and that the differences between cars are so big that there isn't much 'racing' going on any more. Obviously when he was in F1, the dreadful dominance of MS/Ferrari was still there and it must have been boring and frustrating for the other good drivers who might have been a contender if it weren't for that Ferrari.
Btw, Sato isn't slower than Bourdais. I think the two of them are pretty similar, maybe Sato a little faster. Buemi is not that great.
