Stephanie, you realise he was born in Northern Ireland don't you, at the height of the so called 'troubles'? He would have grown up with as much prejudice as anyone during his childhood (and even into his racing career if you care to read up on the death threats he and his family received in 97 from sectarian groups after organisers incorrectly flew the Irish Tricolor instead of the Union Flag)

F1 » Irvine: Racism in 'bad taste' but no harm done

Former Ferrari grand prix ace Eddie Irvine has dismissed the racist insults aimed at newly-crowned F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton recently as a case of merely 'sticks and stones' - and suggested the McLaren-Mercedes star simply should rise above the abuse.

Now let''s watch Irvine being vilified by the Hamilton supporters, just like David Coulthard was. What Eddies say''s is quite true.

I disagree. I'll start by saying that all of this doesn't make Eddie Irvine, David Coulthard, Mark Webber, or Bernie Ecclestone Villains. But I think that the simple solution was to denounce the attacks. Instead of Bernie Ecclestone dismissing it as a joke he should have simply stated that the FIA denounces all acts against race, color, creed, religion, and nationality. The problem with Eddie's statement is that history has shown that people have been physically hurt after something that may have started out as a joke escalates. The aim should be prevention meaning to take action now. That action is simply the FIA stance...

What a sensible approach , well done Eddie , it is about time someone spoke some common sense for a change on this matter.

This is BS.

Does a white boy like Irvine get racist abuse from playschool?

Black kids do.

He's also talking as a majority race, not a minority.

Since when did the words "racism" and "not an issue" become synonymous? Irvine sounds as lost as Coulthard regarding this issue!

I Don't care what you lot think, you won't change history or the world. I have just come out of Uni, and trust me, there is no such thing as racial harmony, and before you say it, I am not black or white.

Once again Eddie goes were no other would go. Rather than hide in a corner he says what he thinks unlike a lot of the drivers and because its the truth and not a lot of crap for there glossy image it goes mainly unliked. Sticks and stones just about says it all. Thanks Eddie. :)
