Bernie's had this planned out from day one. He knew that Donington was never going to be able to get up to his standards in the amount of time they had, so it's given him an excuse to scrap the British GP altogether. Ultimately, what it comes down to is Bernie being bitter that the BRDC won't let hime join. Frankly, the sooner he loses all his money in his divorce the better as far as I'm concerned, can't stand the little ****

F1 » Donington F1 decision delayed

Donington Park will have to wait until the New Year to discover if redevelopment can take place.

what a surprise! an EIS has to be carried out.IF permission is given, presumably a period has to be allowed for an appeal and/or judicial challenge. bearing in mind that airport had to divert traffic during motoGP, with the increased numbers, road traffic, height of stands etc, i think that for safety sake, the airport would have to shut down for a few days. what if a plane lands short or overuns on take off. the result could be horrific. somehow i doubt that permission would be finally granted, or that work could be carried out within the time frame mentioned. it all seems pointless to try and upgrade an existing track, when there is a suitable track available. cost could kill it.

I really can't see this happening + they also run the risk of Bernie pull the rug from under their feet if he doesn't like it.
I hope they know what they're doing because this could be a very expensive mistake.

Bye Bye British Grand Prix.

You really think Bernie hadn't realised this. A win/win for him.
The British GP is no more - Just what Bernie wants.
Bernie rakes in the millions because Donnington break the contract.

It could be good news for Silverstone...

It is not possible a F1 Championship without the British GP. Remember how many Brits squads are over there?

It is VERY possible, and sadly quite likely. The teams race worldwide. Where they are based is largely irrelevant. And they are multi-million $ businesses, so sentiment counts for little.

Mind you, the best F1 track in the UK has not been used since '86 (Brands Hatch). Silverstone has always been a distant second-best for the spectator, so losing the GP was not so bad a thing really - and I speak as a spectator there from '73, Brands since '66.

Actually what Bernie wants is simple - It's called SILVERSTONE.

Bernie wants to starve the BRDC of the British GP, starve them of the only worthwhile revenue the circuit ever had then buy it at a knockdown price as they'll be presiding over a worthless piece of racetrack on a bleak Northamptonshire airfield.

Bernie will then set to work on making Silverstone the suitable epitaph that he has always wanted, Silverstone will be the jewel in the Formula One crown, he will install Martin Whitaker as CEO and the rest is history as they say.

Silverstone will once again become 'The Home of the British Grand Prx' just in time to celebrate Bernie's timely death!

I live near Donny and a GP at Donny won't happen. The infrastructure just isn't there, its access is either a) by using the road the airport uses, hence 3 or 4 days of total disruption for the airport, b) a single-track road through donington village which won't be allowed anyway (always coned off for major Donny events) or via what is basically a country lane. North-West Leicestershire District Council are OK regarding planning but they will have to go through process and it will be a quagmire. Locals will (quite rightly I reckon) cry foul on any one of a dozen grounds and the appeals process will just grind on.

What a complete shambles!!!! Although the plans are good, did they really think that planning permission would be rushed through? Agree that local objections will drag this out for months and could possibly kill-off the entire project. Definately no F1 or MotoGP in Britain next year. Also definately agree that the real problem at Donnington is access infrastructure....basically access via country lanes. Until this problem is resolved, aint nothing gonna ever happen!

Silverstone is just plain boring from a spectators point of view....I vote a re-development of Brands Hatch! :D

This typifies this country and its beaurocratic systems. For goodness sakes, this is a multi million pound spend that will create jobs. Just let them get on with it.
