Had it not been for the grid penalties inflicted on Hamilton he would be ahead of Massa.
I'm not a fanboy but this is false.
The situation concerning Kubica and heidfeld is misleading as well the German was penalized a couple of times in Qualifying if i remember correctly. kubica did dominate him in qualifying but it wasn't as big as the numbers would make you think.

F1 » Revealed: 2008 F1 Supergrid

Lewis Hamilton, Felipe Massa, Kimi Raikkonen, Robert Kubica, Heikki Kovalainen and even Sebastian Vettel all occupied the top spot on the starting grid on occasion in F1 in 2008 - but who was the quickest of all?

That''s an intersting point of view. Ideally, we should totalize the qualifying times of all GPs for each driver to rank them. Unfortunately, that''s impossible because of the stepped design of qualifyings. Your ranking is a little biased as in starting grids there aren''t "decimal positions". So, it would be a little more useful for comparisions presenting the calculated average positions only in whole numbers, where we would have:
3. Massa
4. Hamilton, Raikkonen, Kovalainen
6. Kubica
7. Alonso
8. Trulli
9. Heidfeld, Webber
11. Vettel, Glock
12. Rosberg
13. Coulthard, Piquet
14. Bourdais
15. Button, Barrichello, Nakajima
18. Fisichella
19. Sutil
20. Sato, Davidson

Just to finish, I would like to remark the positions of Massa, Alonso and Kubica as the top qualifiers of 2008. The first for outstanding from the McLaren/Ferrari drivers group. The second for getting the broader distance from the other team driver, even if we assume an acceptable 3 grid position gap over a newcomer (as Piquet). This criteria also brings Kubica to evidence, being him the newcomer in BMW.

Rob, your trying to say the 10 place grid drop penalty Lewis garnered in Canada after ramming into the back of Raikkonen wasnt Lewis' fault?
Can you screw your eyeballs back in, Lewis wouldnt have a penalty if he wasnt colour blind :Z

Forget about grid penalties on Hamilton, Massa should have had a ten placer after melbourne on his move on Coulthard, and as for the statement that Massa had more wins, thats no quite true he was gifted one though wasn't he

The solution! If You'd vote me for FIA-president I would have made a change that had shooked up the startinggrid. Its easy. One Q-lap, then 0,8 sec added to the Q-time of the current champ.-leader, and further down to 0,1 sec added to the Q-time of the current no 8 in the championship.
This would then have been the most likely result in terms og points for 2008: Close, but fair:
Massa 69, Hamilton 63, Kova 62, Raikk 59, Trulli 58, Alonso 57, Vettel 55, Heidfeld 54, Kubica/Webber 53 For fantastic racing the first 2 in the championship would have had those gridpositions this year: Massa: 2-1-18-1-3-9-5-14-4-8-12-14-12-9-15-15-5
Hamilton: 12-17-16-3-7-1-17-6-5-1-15-12-9-8-13-9-17. 8 Winners
