Jesus...why are they ading nother ****** qualifying mode ?

The should have just kept it like it was in the 90s. One hour, all cars can go when they want, the fastest gets pole, just like in Motogp.

F1 » New qualifying format for F1 in 2009?

In a further bid to spice up the action, F1 could be in for its latest qualifying overhaul in 2009, should the Formula One Teams' Association (FOTA) get its way.

Sounds fun, but do they really have to mess with this again? Why confuse things?

And how does the possibility of gaining a point for finishing first fit in with Bernie''s medals idea?

And how do they decide how they line up to start the sprint... oh, how about a qualifying session where they all get an hour to see who can do the fastest lap.

It really is the silly season, medals for race wins now this crap for quali.... anyone got any other stupid ideas to help meat out the winter months ?

i have a great idea! put all the drivers names in a hat and draw from that. 1st out is in last place on grid, and last out gets pole! this would spice up the racing. this would have worked really well at eurodisney!

The solution! If You'd vote me for FIA-president I would have made a change that had shooked up the startinggrid. Its easy. One Q-lap, then 0,8 sec added to the Q-time of the current champ.-leader, and further down to 0,1 sec added to the Q-time of the current no 8 in the championship.
This would then have been the most likely result in terms og points for 2008: Close, but fair:
Massa 69, Hamilton 63, Kova 62, Raikk 59, Trulli 58, Alonso 57, Vettel 55, Heidfeld 54, Kubica/Webber 53 For fantastic racing the first 2 in the championship would have had those gridpositions this year: Massa: 2-1-18-1-3-9-5-14-4-8-12-14-12-9-15-15-5
Hamilton: 12-17-16-3-7-1-17-6-5-1-15-12-9-8-13-9-17. 8 Winners

Another dumb idea, not as dumb as the medals, but pretty darn close...

Leave it as is. No need for tinkering with it.

I guess it would work and it would definiately shake the grid up a bit. One point to make is that if a driver is going to be eliminated on lap 1 basically their first hot lap then the slightest mistake means you are at the back of the grid.

Surely it would be better if each driver had to complete at least 5 flying laps before they were elimiated and drivers are eliminated on the average time of their best five laps.

This would favour the quick consistant drivers without penalising one mistake too harshly, the average is still going to be down because of the mistake so there is a good chance of not making the next cut.
