F1 » Briatore: Grosjean 'too young' for F1 in 2009

Romain Grosjean is 'too young' and 'made too many mistakes' in GP2 in 2008 to have been genuinely considered for a racing role with Renault in F1 in 2009, Flavio Briatore has revealed.

there is a difference being too young and being too immature. vettel is both younger and more mature, so flavio can hardly put a lower age limit on any formula 1 candidate. i dont know much about grosjean but if he is fast, then he should be given a chance.

Just a confirmation that if you are French it's forbidden to be a Renault driver.
poor Grosjean: Briatore is going to serve him the same bull **** than he did for Bourdais
It's a pity...
I don't understand how Renault will improve its image with such declaration

I don´t think Flavio is wrong this time - even the ART people Grosjean was doing GP2 for in 2008 said quite clearly at the end of the season that he is not ready for F1. It is not only about speed, it is also about how you work with the team, how you deal with problems, if you have a mature approach to working....

To be fair, Grosjean is a supreme talent but another year in GP2 - the rumour has him with Campos - would probably do him the world of good at taking a few of his rough edges off and be better in the long run. He's blindingly fast but did have some pretty clear-cut driving errors which cost him a shot at the title. A bit more of a steady move up through the ranks will help.

Plus, in a year or less, we'll know for definite whether Piquet jnr has got it as a top-line F1 driver (as with Bourdais, deserves a second year but needs to impress big time in 2009)
