And the cherry on-top to this stupid, ridiculous, embarrassing (for Crash) top-10.

Vettel is great, but anyone who thinks he''s *the* best is nuts. Maybe in a year or two, but in 2008?

This sums up what most have already realised - that this list is worthless. It''s just an amalgamation of not only people''s opinions, but their biases.

Dear Crash: you would have got a more meaningful top-10 if you simply asked for readers to nominate their favourite driver, rather than rate them all. With Hamilton haters marking him down, Massa haters doing the same, etc. you''ve ended up with an inoffensive no.1 that doesn''t actually reflect who most people think is the best driver.

i thought vettel would win

why would sv be loads of people's best driver when other drivers have won more races and scored more points....he's good , but lets see what else he can do before putting him at the top of the tree....this is typical of these types of poll ,everyone's got their favorite driver but it does'nt mean that they've done enough to be voted no.1....

lamarck, i think that you are the one who is biased. the poll was for who did people think performed the best. posters have voiced their opinion, based on a number of factors, and i think that generally the result was quite fair and vettel deserved the top position. i guess your favourite driver did not fare well.

rich ard: Vettel's one of my favourite drivers, and one of the most exciting on the grid - I'm very much looking forward to seeing him improve in years to come.

My point is that, because voters are asked to rate all of the drivers, they will often, naturally, give the drivers they dislike low scores. The fact of the matter is that it is the very top drivers - usually championship contenders - generate the strongest love/hate emotions. Even a casual glance at Crash comments over the season (and before) clearly demonstrates this.

If voters were to choose just one driver - their favourite - and so weren't be able to vote down others - you would see a more representative result.

lamarck granted but what you are saying is that there are more hamilton haters than massa haters! i know some would mark down one or other of these, but there is general acknowledgement that vettel is good, and at the end of the day, the poll certainly reflected my own opinion apart from one small glitch towards the back.

Congratulations to Seb for winning this poll,but I must say that I agree entirely with Lamarck.If you were asking for your favourite driver,or who you didn't like,then the poll results would be representative of the results shown.
Vettel did a fantastic job towards the end of the season putting a Scuderia Torro Rosso where people though it had no right to be.Except Bordais was ALSO putting the sister car in the top 10 shootout as well,it was obviously a better car than a lot of people gave it credit for.But what else would you expect from a Adrian Newey designed car with a Ferrari engine?
However I've always said Vettel would one day be great and I stand by that.

Alonso and Vettle did the most for their team and maximised their package like no other driver could, then it would be Massa for fighting till the last minute and had it not been bad luck with engine failures and the fuel hose saga, he would have easily won this wdc, even if you count any points lost of Lewis by the FIA treatment...

Remember also this is a driver vote not car. Unlike the usual top teams like Ferrari and Mcca, their drivers had the best package but not maximised their results. All top drivers made some serious ****-ups where both Kimi and Hami crashed in stupid ways like other... Vettel didnt put a foot wrong... so deservedly the winner in my opinion.
