And the cherry on-top to this stupid, ridiculous, embarrassing (for Crash) top-10.

Vettel is great, but anyone who thinks he''s *the* best is nuts. Maybe in a year or two, but in 2008?

This sums up what most have already realised - that this list is worthless. It''s just an amalgamation of not only people''s opinions, but their biases.

Dear Crash: you would have got a more meaningful top-10 if you simply asked for readers to nominate their favourite driver, rather than rate them all. With Hamilton haters marking him down, Massa haters doing the same, etc. you''ve ended up with an inoffensive no.1 that doesn''t actually reflect who most people think is the best driver.

.....and as an avid reader of Crash.net, Lewis Hamilton will be sitting at home with a contented smile, and one eye on his F1 Champion's trophy. Polls like this are interesting as a source of (sometimes good, sometimes VERY lame) debate, but you can bet Vettel won't be too cheered by what a few hundred internet loafers think, whereas Hamilton will be VERY cheered that the only marker of a champion that really matters sits on his mantlepiece.

All this shows is how racist some of the so called racing fans on crash net are.
Whast anyoneelse thinks or speculates about the best driver in F1 is Lewis Hamilton that's why he is F1 World Champion.
The 8th place driver is the best F1 driver according to who? We may as well forget racing and just hold a poll

Chris, I can think of a performance where the conditions were really tough for Alonso. It was all year long driving his car. Of all the top drivers he was the one pushing the crappiest car to the points. He had to work much harder than all the top drivers to get what he got. And Munro Gow please do not say that if anyone had Lewis's car they could have won the championship. It was clear all year that Ferrari had the best car and their two drivers could not get it done. It is unreal to say put Vettel in this or that car and he would have won. Chemistry with the team is as important as the car.

Umm. Turbo4 said that Alonso is a noted wet weather specialist. Personally I remember him crashing at Fuji in 2007, hitting the barrier (a la Lewis) on his way to 7th at Monaco 2008, taking 4th thanks to Strategy at Monza but he would have been behind Lewis had it not been for the idiotic Mclaren strategy.

Yes he did ok in Brazil 2008 and Fuji 2008 but they werent challenging conditions - he had the right tyres.

Honestly I can't think of a performance where the conditions have been really tough and Fernando has excelled, so if anybody can, tell me and my opinion will change!

Jacko - so everybody who didnt vote Hamilton is racist...yea because thats perfect sense. It had nothing to do with the fact they thought hey he's in one of the best cars and practically every driver in F1 could have won the championship in it, that his stupid mistakes throughout the year didnt affect anything and yes there is the fact people voted him down because of their allegiances to other drivers and they have problems with hamiltons attitude and what not - DOESNT MAKE THEM RACIST!!!!

It was a fairly ridiculous poll to be fair, I expect most Hamilton fans are just happy to bask in his title success and not bother with this sort of folly whereas those slurping down their sour grapes would jump at the opportunity to 'demote' him whatever way they could. There is quite obviously no way Vettel deserved to be No 1 despite him being a talent.
At the first race next year only one driver will have the Number 1 on his car and it wont be Vettel or Alonso or Massa
