FA is right. F1 has always been about engineering breakthoughs as much as special drivers. I know what BE and the FIA are trying to do in making the sport cheaper but they have got this wrong. They could cut costs lots of innovative ways such as limiting testing budgets, using the same engine for 4 races, etc. but a common engine is all wrong

F1 is supposed to be a prototype series FIA is bludgeoning it to death with stupid rules. If this rule goes thru I hope the series haemorages viewers as it deserves. Its already one of the dullest series to watch to take away the tech from it is the last straw.

a poster on another thread suggested that, as in v8 supercars, certain engine parts, maybe pistons and con rods be standardised, and the manufacturers allowed to build their own engine around those parts. sounds quite sensible and could reduce costs whilst allowing manufacturers to maintain their identity.
apparently ilmor have already tendered for the supply of engines!

Good on you FA!!!

I honestly feel like my favourite sport is dying, right in front of me!

Next year we will see a shambles.... The FIA will rush more rule changes to try and recover from an already bad situation, make things worse and more cities will withdraw from hosting GP's due to excessive costs imposed by the FIA.. The drivers will get fed up and quit, the viewer numbers will dwindle and the sport dies.

RIP F1

If standardised engines means Alonso will retire then bring it on. Don't let the door hit you on the way out Fern...

F1 needs to change so that all teams have a chance to win and racing is exciting as was the case before BE stepped in. Now if FA is opposed to that for his personal gain he can go when he pleases some better will no doubt replace him

plus do u, even how biased and petty that comment is really think the standard of driving in f1 would be better without top line drivers like him?

like him or not, its a fact he is one of the best and this sport needs the best like him and lewis.

Really nice to know you are not worried about cars that are testing in february as later cars will have the same technology copied alonso wonder where we have heard all this before could it be the mclaren spy case or am i wrong. Maybe it just comes naturally for you to steal other teams ideas

OK as far as i understood the new rules it was going to be a spec for an engine and the manufacturers had to follow the spec for building the new engines but they would not be supplied by the same manufacturer. If what you are all saying is true in the slightest context then F1 is becoming farsical and a total mockery of the reason for the sport and it's title F1

so now alonso stole from ferrari?

Sure he was in knowledge of some of the info that MCLAREN had, but they got it, they knew about it and they shared it with their drivers. the buck stops with their manager-who claimed at the british gp that he knew nothing...... then later changed his mind. thats is now old news barry(18months) and really and doesnt need fernandos or anyone else comments twisted (again!)
