I agree with all the above comments saying Toyota are next. As are Williams, who have been struggling for a while now. And maybe even Toro Rosso (should Red Bull decide that in the current economy that it just isn't viable to run 2 F1 teams).

So potentially that leaves just 12 cars on the grid. And as other people have said... Renault, BMW and the rest will surely not be far behind.

Grave times for F1. Let's hope the powers that be can work together sensibly for once to find a solution, quickly!

Toyota wont be going anywhere. They have the most to gain out of this. It's the luxuary cars that aren't selling - just go look at the figures. Why do people say such nonsence on here sometimes?

As for 'Honda' next year read it as Ferrari 'B' team - under whatever guise....

It is a blow to lose any team from Formula 1, but to lose a large manufacturer is potentially a little worrying. I'm surprised that they look like they will pull out at such short notice, however out of the manufacturer teams Honda going is not that surprising compared to if it was BMW or Mercedes etc. I hope the team can survive, however I'm not that confident it will unless we end up with another manufacturer (unlikely) buy it or another company with big aspirations (a similar company to Red Bull) buying it - its not as if we are dealing with Minardi or Super Aguri here in terms of the running costs and the costs of all the staff.

Anyone with common sense knows that the US has absolutely insane dept. GM & Ford are on the brink...no big surprise Honda want out of F1 before they bleed dry - can Toyota justify their expense... Renualt quit F1 (and came back) more times than I can remember... Lets just not take anything for granted right now but there are a few billionaire businessmen still around...mmmh lets just see :?

No great loss, really. I''m a Honda man through and through, but their F1 effort has been a joke from Day 1. And to think that the excellent JV wasted his best F1 years driving the turkey of a car. Pack up and head home, boys, and go back to just building engines. That''s what you have always done best.

First we have a few circuits in doubt for 2009, partly due to the financial crisis but mostly due to Bernie's greed. And now this? I may be a McLaren fan but it's always good to Honda on the grid. If Toyota exit F1, the teams might just as well form a breakaway series. The teams don't need Bernie, Max or the FIA to succeed.

To think that a year ago the spy saga was dominating the F1 news. Those were such simpler times.

How long until the grid is made up of 8 Mclarens and 8 Ferraris?

The cost of F1 is ridiculous. What do the Mfg's really get for all the money spent (wasted)?

Don't be surprised if F1's cost cutting formula turns it into something similar to the old Champ Car formula. That's OK, Champ Car was more exciting than F1 anyway. So is the IRL.

G Irish, i dun think the Malaysian GP would be under threat if Honda & Toyota pull out. Just because we're Asian doesn't mean we automatically support the Asian teams. More Malaysians support the big three (McLaren, Ferrari & BMW) than they do Honda or Toyota. Especially BMW, since BMW's sponsored by the natl. oil giant Petronas. But I must say, this is bad. The domino effect that this will cause is potentially huge. My only advice to Honda is, stay in F1 as an engine supplier. Maybe work with Williams again?
