Basically it says that from 2010 a spec engine is a done deal.

You buy it from them or you build an exact copy yourself.
No developement.

So every manufacturer can end the engine tech''s contracts asap.

Ferrari, BMW, Mercedes will probably be able to build it on their own sportscar engine production lines.

And this also means a 700bhp 14000 rpm tame engine. Maybe take the wings away to make it more exciting to control?

Oh wait! What next?

Maybe after 5 years FIA and F1 can start cloning Lewis Hamilthon. This also will cut cost to hired "so call great driver" like him! Hahha! Maybe everyone can start to watch F1 back...

What is this? Indycar? With ugly cars and standard engines, where is the excitement of new technology? I hate to say it, but this may be teh end of Formula 1 as we know it and as it has always been. Are Bernie and Max secretly trying to destroy F1?

If this brings back 30-car grids and close racing I'm all for it. And Ferrari will build there own version which will be badged 'Ferrari' and will still have the magic attached to it. And at that price/cost it may even bring back other manufacturers.

FIA, BE, the teams and fans should really take the Honda withdrawal as a wake-up call. Even the rich teams that would continue under any circumstance need to remember that a world championship trophy will be massively devalued if there are virtually empty starting grids. Cost cutting is absolutely vital for the next few years even if only to keep the numbers up.

In my opinion the problem is just how to achieve this without taking the 'magic' out of the sport. I'm not too sure the FIA's current ideas are going to do that. They may cut costs, but possibly to the point that F1 just becomes another highly restricted formula like the many already out there.

does this mean that ilmor, who announced that they were tendering, are totally out of the picture? dont forget, tha merc engine is basically an ilmor engine. further, as mentioned above, it would seem unlikely that ferrari would want to throw away 50+ years of engineering skills and technology.

why don't they use a desmocedici engine which is fastest on straight: then teams will change names like:

Ferrarri desmocedici, mclarem desmocedici, williams desmocedici, toyota desmocedici etc.....

interesting isn't it????

Then the Ducati manager can replace Mosley next november at FIA helm
