F1 » Red Bull next to quit F1 in 'desperate' times?

Alternative plans could be to halt all development and simply race with what is available now, with the lowest possible budget, just to survive.

No new parts, no work on the engine, slower pitstops because you use fewer people. No work on the 2010 car until it is clear that there is money again or that the decision will be made to race in 2010 with a full grid of Lola-Cosworth purchase cars.

It may sound stupid, but if no measures are taken, there might not be a start to the 2009 season.

I don't think it sounds as stupid as it may have done last week and by the end of the year...

The penny dropping has never sounded so deafening.

they are pricing themselves off all the mainstream circuits and running gor doubtful arab money to put on a show for the chosen few.

they are ruining rallying with the same approach

This is why you need the independant teams. While big corporations and manufactures will pull out when the going gets tough, they start to loose money or stop seeing a return on their investment, for a privateers Formula 1 is their business and they will stay until the very bitter end.

I have always said that manufacturers and large companies owning teams outright was unhealthy for the sport.

Well lets see Red Bull won 1 GP in 4 years. How many did Honda win? I think the answer is 1. Frankly, with the economy and such around the world going south. I can''t see how anyone can continue to justify pumping $100, 200, 300 Million dollars or more a year into a program even if they are winning. It used to be win on Sunday, sell on Monday. That is no longer the case. Honda is doing the right thing by pulling the plug. I hope that they use the money that they saved to produce better fuel efficient cars.


Anyway Just my thought for what it is worth.

Is it me or do Red Bull sponsor just about every sport known to man!!!!!!!!!!
Surely they can't keep spending money like they do in the current economic climate?

Car manufacturers are the problem, because they equate achievement with money spent and then fall foul of budgetary constraints when the going gets tough, they can never truly participate. Car manufactures see the constant technology advancements needed for a sport like F1 as an unnecessary expense.

The independent or privateer on the other sees its brain power, initiative and innovation that allows them to get ahead of the competition. The ultimate 'men in sheds' Colin Chapman and Ken Tyrell just kept everyone else on the run. Car manufacturers just cannot comprehend what these guys had.

The sooner that the car manufacturers and mad Max leave F1 the better and then it can be reclaimed on behalf the fans and racing enthusiasts.

This is no surprise to me as binza said they seem to sponsor every event going.

Can somebody correct me if I am wrong but did RED Bull want to become the Major F1 sponsor a few years ago?
