"an str source" said that button wouldnt need an "audition". i wonder who was this, maybe a mechanic , but i doubt it would be anyone in authority. anyway, i seem to remember button saying, during the year, that "honda had to improve" hinting that he might not stay there. obviously 8m a year for three years convinced him to stay. and he is going to walk away with 15m to do nothing!!. he should retire and enjoy his windfall. does anybody else think that his 8m per year to run at the back, was a bit over the top i am sure that there are many drivers ahead of him that are driving for a fraction of that amount.

F1 » Button 'wouldn't need' Toro Rosso audition

Jenson Button's hopes of remaining in F1 in 2009 following Honda's shock withdrawal from the sport have been boosted, after Scuderia Toro Rosso suggested he would 'not need an audition' if he wished to join them next year.

out performed by his team mate, no.... get your facts right, JB was out scored but not out performed, there is a difference between the two.

before you disagree go check the relative finishing positions for the year.

JB is spoilt, and has thrown his toys out of the pram before - think about the Williams Saga. I personally think he is massively over rated. He should take his money and just disapear quietly or go to America.
Better drivers deserve a shot at the STR drive.

the guy is a waste of space... i remember him going on about how he would beat schumacher in the same car! yeah right he cant even bet the guy who was pummeled for years by schu. Out qualified 10-8 says out proformed to me coupled with the points difference. I would say hes past it but he never really had it. Totally undeserving of the STR drive. Off you go good bye

Oh and dominated Rubens for the last two years. Odd that as soon as a technical director with 5+ years of setting Rubeys cars turns up he's suddenly worthless.

LOL i wouldnt exactly say he dominated rubens for 2 years and do you think that ross actually set rubens car up? i would have thought it would have been the job of Sociali? Maybe thats why he was so well paid? coz he set up both cars and the T car all by himself? wow i thought ross was good but now i know hes truly god like.
oh yea where did the + come from i only remember rubens joining in 2000 and leaving at the end of 2005. So until he joined honda it would have been 5 years

I agree with GW and Foxy, this what F1 is about, people earning huge money thanks to the worker around the world not saying a single for the one laid off, how easy and stupid to make comments like that, I suggest Brawn and Button to go fishing together.

What a silly article - as if Toro Rosso would need to 'audition' the best driver on the grid for a seat. If they have any sense they'll pay him whatever he wants (if Kimi is on $28mill per year, Jense must be worth $50mill) and get him. He'll develop that car into something capable of winning the constructors championship within 7 races. Alonso worth 0.6s, Jense worth 1.6s. He is the reciprocal of Alonso - do the math.

cya you are a pedantic numpty. Dominated is the word used by the OFFICIAL F1 website to describe it. scored nearly double the points in 06 and Rubens didn't score any at all in 07.

Are you also telling me that the arrival of a man who worked closely with Rubens for, oh sorry, five years and makes all the technical decisions regarding the car had nothing to do with his improvement? If not then it is a remarkable coincidence. what do you think he does, just sits on the pitwall spinning around in his chair? I'm not saying that he didn't help JB and his lack of effort this year was disappointing but that's a ridiculous assumption.
