For once I agree with Murray. Fernando is the best driver in F1, by far. He proved it this year.

Hopefully he will be WC again in 2009.

F1 » Murray Walker: Alonso 'the best of the lot'

Fernando Alonso is still the best driver in F1, argues the sport's veteran BBC commentator Murray Walker - and, if his Renault is up to it, the Spaniard can challenge for the world championship again in 2009...

Somebody take Murray back to the home and plug him in to his life support. Alonso is a bad tempered selfish driver who''s idea of team is "its my team" he has a streak of petulance a mile wide and regularly shows it.

Leave old Murray alone. He's seen them come and seen them go so his opinion is valid. I dont agree with Murray but you cant argue with FA ability to get a car around the race track. He's very fast, very skilled and 2 x WDC. He's just a bit a pratt.

I think if Alonso is the BEST driver in F1 and if his Renault is up to it, he wouldn't CHALLENGE for the championship he would WIN it.

Best driver + Good Car = WDC

There are lot of good drivers in F1, in my opinion Fernando is a very talented one but can't say the best one.

sunny, muddy talker is entitled to his opinion, whether or not we agree with it. presumably he was asked a loaded question and he answered it acordingly. alonso is the third or fourth that he has "named " as the best, within the last two months.

Pure driving I would have to say it is Alonso. Shear desire Lewis. Most potential Kimi.
And then Massa.

My god, i didnt expect Murray to say that. He does talk tosh at times but for once he's talking sense and i dont think theres very little anyone can say against it.

Though i still rate MS above them all!

I agree the guy is a great driver, but if he was the best, why didn't he clean up last year? The car was up to it as Hamilton showed and if he was that good, anything that might have gone on behind the garage doors wouldn't have stopped him proving it.

And I agree with Steve, no-one can beat MC...yet!

Alonso is the best driver. Trulli and Fisi will both rate him as their favourite team mate, it was the situation at McLaren that brought out the worst in him.
Drivers have a right to be honest and i admire him for standing up to his critics. I would like to see Hamilton try and win in that (2008) Renault
