They both have a point. The FIA are trying to cut costs but are pressing ahead with KERS. doesn''t make sence to me. As for Honda not having a major sponsor, they probably couldn''t find one. Or why would a team going through such financial hardship choose not to take investors on board? and then pull out of f1. On the other hand who has the sort of money to become a new investor in this financial climate?

F1 » Mercedes joins Ferrari in call for KERS ban

Mercedes-Benz's Norbert Haug has added his voice to that of Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo in suggesting that the FIA's 'extremely expensive' KERS initiative should be scrapped - at least in the short-term.

What good does KERS do in F1? It's not like they're running hybrid F1 cars now, so what's the point? It's a kneejerk action to soothe the green folks who contends that racing is bad for the planet...

If I remember correctly, KERS isn't mandatory for 2009 anyway. It is for 2010, but teams can introduce it early if they want to. So, they can, if they want to, be more leisurely in their development and get it right, before 2010, rather than racing to get it ready for 2009, when we all know that these things take time to get right.

As for a waste of money? That remains to be seen. If it produces more overtaking, then fine, but if, as many people have said, it won't make much difference, then agreed, waste of money. Typical FIA making things up as they go along, not knowing if it will work or not, but imposing it on F1 anyway and making everyone else pay for it, while moaning about costs.

There's another racing series that uses a boost button, like the KERS is supposed to do. A1GP and when the drivers both have boost time left they both cancel each other out. So in in F1 if the KERS is charged everytime they brake they could use it on every straight after a braking zone removing any advantage they might have. After all if energy i there and they aren't limited by how many times they use it they will be using it on every straight they can.

Ferrari and McLaren have spoken so KERS is probably dead. (Ferrari always get there way :)) Also, if it's true about the development costs then what's the point in this finacial climate. Bad news for BMW, they appear to have spent a lot of money on developing there KERS system and where keen to use it.

It has always seemed strange that they wanted to use KERS in F1 and not in sportscar or touring car racing first. Those series seem somewhat closer to actual road cars.

It looks like RD got so used to being kicked when he was down that he took a shot at Honda. Is this some hold over grudge from Honda being forthcoming about being approached during last years spy gate?

tho i agree, its a little unfair on the teams that have put the time and money into it like bmw and ironicly Honda.

ferrari we have been told have had a few issues, not sure about mclaren tho. toyota have said they wont introduced until half way through the year. Renault were said to be confident-tho yet to run it. bmw run it months back.

not sure who will gain if its put back, probably ferrari and merc who would of developed the 08 cars right til the end to try and win the title. despite common opinion renaults last development was for singapore, so they moved onto the new car months ago.

I'm just wondering why the man is against KERS when his team is actively testing it today? bit bloody late to complain when they have obviously developed the thing to the point it's usable.....

Thank you.....when I first heard of KERS I thought "what does this have to do with racing "? NOTHING!Just a fantastic waste of time and money! The engineers have enough with countering the rest of the new ''09 rules and now with the recession we will be lucky to have F-1 at all.The wings , tires and medals situation should resolve the dissappointment most F-1 fans felt in ''08.It was a horrible season for the die hard F-1 fans and hopefully we wont see another season like that again. With the new rules the leveling of the F-1 grid should bring the REAL talent to the fore.No more manufactured championships please.5% driver and 95% car is boring.Let true talent reign !
