Ferrari will probably never use this technology on a road car so for them it is a futile exercise. Of course it may trickle down to a Fiat or some other car connected to Fiat. Formula 1 just does not seem like the best series to initiate road car development.

I also have concerns that the warm up lap and any safety car period will be more dangerous as drives do some heavy breaking maneuvers to charge the system.

F1 » Mosley blasts Ferrari KERS criticism

FIA President Max Mosley has spoken out against Ferrari's recent anti-KERS diatribe, suggesting the Scuderia's comments are not the sign of being 'great engineers' and insisting that in the current era of dramatic cost-cutting, the new energy-saving technology will be 'the last thing' to go.

It looks as if the KERS system may be here to stay but I do agree that for the time being it could have been a substantial cost saving on teams budgets. Those teams that run with the system in 2009 if they get it right should have a clear advantage over those that don''t, and by 2010 we will have the same situation that we have at the moment with the so called differences in engine power that a few teams have been complaining about, certain teams will be way ahead of the others in terms of R&D and the rest always playing catch up. :)

kers is supposed to promote green energy. i wonder what the carbon footprint of its developement is like, andwhat will be the cost of disposing the batteries used for storage?

Why haven't they complained before that point...
Looks to my like the big two clearly see that the competition may have the upper hand on KERS devellopment so now they use the cost of develloping it to prevent loosing the advantage they historically had...
Anyway, the rule state that they are not required to have it, so if their so-called engineer can't do it, that is their problems.

Max should explain how mandating a brand-spanking new technology saves money. Yet, "It's our fault".

He's still disconnected from reality- partly. He might want to talk to a doctor about staring Risperdal. Too bad they don't have anything for hypocrisy.

mark, i think that ferrari will use kers eventually on road cars as they are progresing rapidly with greening their cars. also in F1, i am sure that there would be a way to purge the system before the start, that could be policed. this is not to say that i approve of the system, i am actually opposed to it because it is pointless and i feel constitutes a serious danger in event of an acident, both to driver and to marshals.

richard - after I posted that it occured to me the the drivers could "ride" the brakes while motoring behind the safety car to charge the system.
