Is it me or are they tring to ruin F1? Every year there are just more stupid rule changes. I thought F1 was supposed to be the series of prototype race cars that you could push to the design & performance limits. Why are they always restricting it? I mean no tyre warmers? What is that going to acheive? They should just allow tobaco advertising back and let people make up there own minds about weather they want to smoke or not!

F1 » FIA reveals F1 cost cuts

The measures that it is hoped will dramatically reduce expenditure in F1 over the next few years have been revealed by the FIA's World Motor Sport Council - with Max Mosley's standardised engine not one of them.

so far, nothing of earth shaking proportions here. cut out fuel stops, limit pit crew, share limited wind tunnel use, stc etc would have been a start. the engine situation is a farce. merc, ferrari, renault or toyota could all supply the engines at 4.5m even if the actual cost to produce was 8m. a loss leader of a few million is only chicken feed compared to the overall budget. and who is there to guarantee that customers would get an engine equal to the main team. customers will ALWAYS be at a disadvantage

Quite agree Rich, except that an outside supplier (Cosworth ?) could be used, thus levelling the paying (!) field.

kimmykins, i fully accept that an outside supplier for the smaller teams would be quite a good idea, bu i dont honestly believe that cosworth could make an engine EQUAL to the top manufacturers at a low cost, so the small teams would still be at a disadvantage.

Ok this may save 30% of the 2008 budget but then have they added on the costs of developing KERS??? :?

It seems crash has missed out on some details Autosport didn't....

Possibility of a standard KERS unit in 2010... Ban on tyre warmers, refueling (I assume in the race?) and a standard telemetry system... Market research into Shorter Research, the AWFUL 'medal' system and any changes to quali...

But most interestingly... Possibly a whole new powertrain in 2013... F1 wants to go Hybrid...

Did I really read no refuelling during race ?
Back to real racing: fuel in, tires on, run through and first at the flag wins.

@Matt

Hybrid would be fantastic. Imagine a F1 car which had to run with something other than fossil fuel for 10 laps or whatever, but could do it anywhere in the race. But then what if the race was shortened? I guess FIA could adopt a scoring system like the Duckworth Lewis one in cricket. Mmmm, suddenly doesn't sound such a bright idea
