So Renegade you want him to be more like Raikkonen,Kubica or Alonso? Perhaps he could do magic tricks or tell jokes as he waits for the start of qualifying?Muppet! :D

F1 » Hamilton: I didn't expect to win BBC award

Thoroughly deserved by the cyclists. Way way WAY more exciting than F1 over the summer, and I don''t just mean the Olympics. And all done on the equivalent of F1''s wheel-nut budget. I was proud to be British last night - then wake up to find out we are busy handing the first test match to India.....

Surely to win you would need a 'personality', something Hamilton lacks

A truly great top three of thoroughly deserving, inspirational champions. And for how many years can we say that (Zara Phillips, anyone?!)?

I'd put them in a slightly different order, but then I'm a motorsport fan :)

Cant fault the top 3, though the top 2 were obvious. Very surprised that Chris Hoy won it, i really thought Hamilton would but Hoy got my vote, purely for his absolute domination of his sport. Hamilton's title victory does not, in my opinion, make up for the number of mistakes he made throughout the year.

I suspect his 'i didnt expect to win it' comment is just to make himself feel better!

Jim Clark won 2 titles yet he never won it, so winning the f1 title doesn't guarentee the award, Damon Hill won it for being second in the title, remember when the dirty rotten german cheat cut him up in adelaide.

Hoy was the only winner this year, so glad common sense prevailed, but Hamilton wouldn't have been placed if it was up to me, even though him winning the title was what I wanted to see the most, purely for the injustices he had to put up with in F1.

Its good to see Hoy getting recognition for cycling that Obree and Millar didn't get, hopefully we see the rise of Mark Cavendish

Well done Chris Hoy - anyone enjoying track cycling on the TV should go watch it live - it is spectacularly exciting (and "slightly" less expensive to get into should you want to have a go).

I voted for Ainsley (Ben, not Harriet) because of the length of his achievement, but Hoy deserved it over Hamilton simply because he never looked like being beaten - very much in the schumacher manner, his opponents only stood a chance until Hoy arrived. There was always a chance with Hamilton that he or McLaren would err.

But all bitching and disagreements aside, what an inspirational bunch. Even, on this occasion, the footballers (Ok from a different era)

Chris Hoy was a very deserving winner, so congratulations to him. As for Lewis, I doubt not winning sports personality of the year will bother him too much. The accolade he really wanted this year he's already won. Anyway, there's always next year.
