i dont think that ferrari would have turned its back on top line racing. they may , like others, have withdrawn fron F1 and set up their own series with the other mfrs. really it is a shame that fia dropped their plan, because then , with the withdrawal, we might have had a proper series to look forward to, not the BE circus.

rich ard I think the worrying aspect of F1 today is not much the BE circus as much as the FIA and the way rules, changes, cost cutting and whatever the FIA sees fit are imposed to F1 in the name of safety and all the reasons we are or not given by Max Mosley. Now I am not throwing all the fault on Mosley. The teams have been at fault as well until FOTA came to light and tried to negotiate with FIA on the above. In my view it is paramount for FIA to discuss anything they want to introduce to F1 with the teams and arrive into a consensus on the changes. The standard engine is a mockery of what F1 has been and still is in racing, FIA went ahead and still insists to impose it one way or another.

another aspect which is not that clear is the rules and their interpretation which is creating much unpleasantness among the fans, even if we know that some fans don't want to accept anything going against their teams still if we consider what has transpired this past season some decisions were a bit contraversial... McLaren was saved from banning in 2008 over the spying but are we sure if it was a minor team it would have been that lucky. And let me say immediately I am against banning anyone.. Heavy penalties yes, but we even saw that FIA was very lenient to some drivers were in some accidents some of them deserved more than 10p drop at the start..

The rules should have each prescribed penalties which the various stewards than will have to apply evenly for all the teams avoiding any so called favouritisms and gifts to some team or other. This past season proved that interpretation of the rules cannot be left to individual stewards without giving them a set of penalties that are appropriate for each rule.

hi karga, welcome back. you are right in what you say, but there is one point. the FIA have dropped the standard engine rule, although they may arrange for a supplier of an engine to the new rules. merc et al, will still produce their own engines and make them available, as at present, but at a lower cost. but i still doubt that ferrari would ever walk away from the top formula, no matter what it is called. they have threatened n the past, but are still here. it is racing that makes their road cars special. happy christmas

sunny, go back about a week for the announcement from fia. they state that the plans for a single low cost engine "have been scrapped". there is a spec for the new engine, and some parts may be standardised, but individual mfrs, will still manufacture their own engines. that is my reading of the situation. i suppose that there will be clarification later, and that final details are still to be worked out.
happy christmas to you, also.

rich ard you are right FIA dropped the idea of standard engine. As for Ferrari it is not in their interest to get out as they use the F1 as a marketing tool for their road cars. Merry Christmas to you and all the guys that are celebrating Christmas day.
