I, for one, hope Slim does not buy Honda. What F1 does not need is another bottom feeding billionaire owner. Someone who thinks they can buy a company, any company, on the cheap, do a quick turnaround and sell it for a big profit. F1 should not necessarily be about profit. It should be about people who want to race at the highest level. People such as Enzo Ferrari, Colin Chapman, Rob Walker, Walter Wolf, Jack Brabham, Bruce McClaren, Ken Tyrell, Frank Williams, to name a few. I doubt any of those thought they would go racing to make a big profit.

What does this say to any/all other interested parties? If the world's second/third richest man took time to look and has no intention of buying (!) what does that say to the other interested parties?

Perhaps he too saw through Mr. Fry's grinning.....

It means you believed the BS reports that he WAS looking in the first place, as he has just put out a statement to say he wasn't looking to buy the team anyway...

Hopefully reporters will actually ask someone in the team (preferably someone who has some say in the matter) before starting the next rumour regarding any sale.

Al,

In an environment of excess (F1's biggest spending team in true terms) integrity will be key to any negotiation for sale. If potential buyers cannot trust those in charge of the negotiation (I view Fry as the issue, not Brawn) then those 800 employees should feel very nervous.

Assume your view (that it's all down to reporters) is true, the right thing for Fry/Brawn to do would have been to issue a statement denying the purchase, instead of waiting for Mr. Slim to take the initiative. Leveraging your position (not you, them) in this way is a bit off.

I believe that we will all soon know what's real and what's hype, but for now, accept it will all be hype

So they denied? The team must been sold then! I mean, in F1 they are always lying even if there is no reason for it!

I agree with Sunny.

Slim MUST have been interested in the deal, considering he's so interested in developing and getting Mexican drivers on the world stage. This would have been the final jigsaw in his pet puzzle.

He must have taken a good long hard look at it and thought at the last minute.....BUT WHY IN THE HELL DID HONDA PULL OUT??? Is there something they saw that he wasn't seeing? Something lurking around the corner? I guess you don't become worth 60 billion without being streetwise...or by "throwing your money away" in tough economic times! Those billions must be too precious to him LOL

On another note, does that mean we CAN STILL get rid of Button after all???

Worth considering that any purchase, let alone one of this size, starts with due diligence. DD will commonly include a sweep of media sources as part of the initial mix.

We all know that a quick scan of the Internet defines this team as always over-funded and under-performing.

A quick look at the media will define Fry as out of his depth

A quick look at driver salaries vs. return will define Button as a total waste of time and money

A quick look at the ongoing lack of financial control inside this team (now in its second generation) will frighten anyone away

A quick look at the Brackley job centre will define whether anyone swallows the bull****

Sunny , Joe - That Something has initial NF. That something gave impression to the Japanese crew in earlier team, that they are just paying monies to be pushed around by the Brits. I think Slim might have realized that during his earlier discussions.

I am saying earlier discussion, as it was widely circulated over the press, that Slims Private Chopper did land in recent days in Brakley, didn't it :-?
