You are right, this si just hot air to keep the investors on board. I believe they will be lucky if they get permission this time next year if at all. There is probably another report being done by the objectors saying the oppisite. As someone else said here we still have all the appeals and publi enquiries to go.

The claim of ecomomic benifits in the report are questionable given the present climate, any investors are better of leaving there money in the Post Office.

I believe this si a dead duck, but the planners will welcome the application becuase it keeps them in work, which is what they need at the moment. that and the application fees.

F1 » Gillett: Donington F1 planning 'in the bag'

Simon Gillett remains confident of a positive response when North West Leicestershire District Council rules this week on planning permission for Donington Park's re-development to be able to host the British Grand Prix.

the EIS was carried out by "track officials" and is therefore a one-sided opinion of the effects. the council will now have to consider this and all objections before any decision, so to say that the permission is "in the bag" , is a little premature. even if permission IS given, there are bound to be many objectors. i would still hold my breath!

it will be an absolute nightmare getting in out and around the track, anyone who has been to a motogp or wsb meeting there will know, they are going to have to sort the roads out around the track so cars can get out after the race. has for the thought of seeng F1 cars coming down craner is a must see and i wouldnt mind seeing that myself and i hate F1 racing but the cars are awesome.

Cant see how there can be many objections in these times...its going to create jobs and thats all every level of government is looking right now...if it meant jobs they'd allow you to build terminal 6 at Heathrow starting from tomorrow...thing with the UK is there are far too many people allowed to have far too big a say in every aspect of a project and even then they are so narrow minded they only ever look at the bits effecting them...the UK is stuck in 70s thinking and needs a good kick up the jacksie

@ Nigel - They have come up with a dingbat idea to prevent the problems associated with minor events (I've spent 2hrs on the M1 sliproad just trying to get into a BTCC meet). Their idea is "To ban cars from the GP". Yes ban cars from a car race! During an open day at Donington, Chief Executive Simon Gillett said F1 spectators will be able to book their transport with their tickets and accommodation. "This will be the first public transport Grand Prix. We are not bringing cars here," he is quoted as saying by the Nottingham Evening Post. I even heard they want to stop most flights at the airport during the race weekend to stop the (untrue) old wives tale about fuel dropping on the track.

Why is everyone against this? Donington is one of the best circuits in the UK, interesting layout, good elevation changes, it will challenge drivers and I see a few mistakes being made. I really hope this plan comes off, cause then Britain will have one of the best circuits on the F1 calender. Donington is a much more chalenging circuit than Silverstone, and generally has better racing. Is everyone really that scared of change?

awrb its not so much being against it as you said its one of the best circuits if it were to happen it will be chaos and the changes will destroy a great bike circuit only for the dwarf to take the fomula one away to the middle east following year gillet has promised improvements ever since hes been involved yet its worse every time i go there

(AWRB) I'll agree that Donington is a great track. The problem is not the track itself but the god awful facilities, the attempt by the owners of the track to stiff more money out of you each time you do something (a great example is the music at night...Brands is free and Donny charges AND they stop you from taking in your own bloody beer! Really nice for those of us who pay to camp the whole weekend..not).
I don't feel welcome at Donny...anyone who went to WSB last year will know exactly what i am talking about. The toilets and showers are disgusting...again Brands has Portakabin showers which are usually hot and clean.....
