I totally agree with DC .He has hit the nail right on the head, Jenson Button is still one of the very best out there and is still young enough to make a big impression in the right car

F1 » DC: Button a quality driver and great talent

Jenson Button has received a vote of confidence from friend and former rival David Coulthard, who described the currently out-of-work Honda star as a driver capable of winning 'a lot of grands prix'.

@XB - Williams never mistreated Button - Montoya was contracted to Williams before Button was ever in the frame - in fact they were always absolutely up-front that the deal was for one season only - they managed to get him into Benneton/Renault - with the option to return - which he (Button) reneged on. When you make an agreement, you should stick to it - that's called INTEGRITY. For all his talents, he has largely himself to blame for his present situation (albeit well-remunerated for it).

JB absolutely made the correct decision in breaking his F1 contract with Williams. BAR/Honda did seem to be the best option at the time, however in the end made huge mistakes, with Japan effectively putting incompetents in charge of the team.

Williams were/are going nowhere, plus they mistreated JB badly: they gave his race seat to Montoya, and bundled JB off to a back-of the grid experimental/underperforming Renault team. Despite this, they kept him under contract, their car continued to lose relative performance. After the Renault insult, I can't blame JB for wanting out.

iBlaze, Barry, I agree, Jens is so smooth compared to other drivers. It's sad that He listened to the wrong People. If anybody doubts Jens Style, get a hold of some video. You will see what we are trying to say. Too bad, He let the hype go to His head. 1 of his mates should have slapped Him upside the Head! His day is done. Outside chance with Renault? Toyota Maybe, if he Drives for next to nothing. everything else is a bottomless pit. such a waste. OOOPPPS so sorry for double post!

Have to agree with dc i dont think button has lost any of his ambition to win the wdc i just think since his fall out with frank and going to honda he will find it difficult to recover from the situation he has put himself in, he is a good driver but not really had the equipment to deliver even when he worked for frank.

forager 1... I wasn't comparing Button to Mansell. No way. Mansell is one of THE greats of F1. He'd already came close to winning the title long before that 176th race.

I was simply using that statistic to show that, although Button's time has probably passed by now, there is no such thing as a "championship-window". Given the right equipment, you could win it in your first season (as Hamilton almost did last year) or you could win it in your last season (as Schumi almost did in 06) or you could win it in any other season in between.

Unfortunately, Button has never had a championship-winning car. Whether that's his own fault or whatever, it's certainly not down to his driving.

Let's remember Barichello didn't " outperform " Button until Brawn arrived at Honda and could help Rubens set up his car like in the "old days" at Ferrari.Button has been a victim of very bad timing and decisions , perhaps of his own making.

Yep thats what I mean ten races to seven. This is all opinion and all and I don't go in for the 'flaming' but in my opinion Button, to keep his stock strong, should have done a lot better than that against a ageing driver who's best years were behind him and who at no point in his career has ever asserted himself as a top tier driver (Ferrari included)
Even Ferrari took him on because they didn't want anyone to challenge Schumacher's number one status.
