Ferrari's much-derided 'traffic lights' pit-stop procedure - one that potentially lost Felipe Massa the 2008 F1 crown - is to be given a reprieve in 2009, the Scuderia has confessed...

the system has its merits, but i see that there is no mention of the "human error" element, on the override system. this would still create a bit of a risk, but presumably no more so than the manual lollipop system. it will be interesting to see how many teams will copy the system this year

Apparently, the thing had been switched to Manual Mode in Singapore, When this system works They can electronically hold the Car in the Pits. It's new, it has bugs. If & when they bring back refueling it should be safer.

Ferrari are the most error prone pit outfit in F1 and this will only add to the spectacle. It's been a while since we had a fry-up (Schumacher at Hockenheim?) so would be nice to see one this term (in a very superficial, very quickly extinguished light-burning-of-overalls kind of way of course)

Somewhat refreshing to see praise rather than slating for it since other categories of motorsport use similar systems - V8 Supercars use the radio and air jacks to release the cars... but that's a different kettle.

Who controls the release when other cars are in the lane? one of the wheelmen?

Ok my opinion last year was that when a team allows one accident to happen due to this system it is inexcusable. To allow it more than once they should have been heavily penalised with constructor point deductions...didn't they break a crew members leg in the process??? How bad does it have to be until they take constructor points off a team for unsafe practice? Death perhaps? .. Hmm then again it was Ferrari..one rule for one one for another..
