Yeah, I hope so too. Will never be as surprised to see anything at a launch as the six wheeled Tyrrell though!

KERS.....what about Max Mosley and all the FIA officials being fitted up with receivers and all members of the pitcrews wearing transmitters, every time one of the pit crew gets an electric shock it automatically gets relayed to the FIA officials. :) :) :)
also as a bonus for us viewers, the officials are followed around by film crews and prizes are awarded to the official that reacts in the most humorous manner :) :)
.......I am only joking, but you got to admit it would be fun

Alice: the Earthing strips have been there forever! They may not prevent the static discharge associated with KERS. At this point and time I cannot find how the FIA will deal with these possible PROBLEMS. Currently the FIA have NO answer to this problem. I can not find any answers on the NET. This is Draconion! Do'es somebody have to DIE. NO.. NO.. Come On People, KERS do'es not belong in F1

The two little flicky things in Pit Lane are earthing strips, which supposedly remove the static from the cars in Pit Lane for the mechanics etc... perhaps for 2009 they will run on the bottom of the car?

More importantly, what measures have the FIA instituted for these occurances. After all, they are the ones who instigated the introduction of KERS.

From what I've been able to gleam off the net, Ferrari won't start the Season with KERS. Sandbagging? I have not read anything about how the Marshalls will deal with the Potentcial (sp) static discharge. This could be scarey. Do'es any body out there know anything about this?

I don't think their KERS system is perfect, at least before the first race starts. Should that happen I would not be surprised to see they run without it until it was properly ready... unless if they choose the bravest step: develop the KERS heads-on by racing them on the track.

This is a technology Toyota will have advantage due to their hybrid car technology. Wonder what would happen should Honda didn't pull out though... :?

forager, i agree, but also add in the possible teething problems with the systems, that could mean that a car, running with a malfunctioning system, would be handicapped by the extra weight. and i still believe that there is a physical danger to driver, or mechanics, or marshals in event of an accident. another question is tha safety of fuel stops. a bmw mechanic got a severe shock from the kers. what if the spark had ignited spilling fuel?? fia should have allowed teams to test over a longer period, before fitting it to cars. ferrari may ultimately prove to have made a wise decision.

I like the way Ferrari has chosen to siddle up to the KERS technology. I think starting with a lower CG & more ballast availability will at least offset the blast for the pass in the early part of the Season. But some Teams will get it right, some won't. I expect some strange results!
