Really? I wonder why he failed to do so in 2007 with the same car and intense scrutiny to ensure fairness of equipment and was beaten by a ROOKIE, the very same Lewis Hamilton. I must say, F1 "commentators" do come out with a pile of rubbish on a frequent basis!

F1 » Alonso 'could beat Hamilton easily'

Double F1 World Champion Fernando Alonso and Ferrari would make 'an exceptional duo' capable of defeating Lewis Hamilton 'easily', it is contended by three of the sport's experts.

Of course... We saw how ''easily'' Alonso beat the rookie Hamilton in equal machinery at McLaren. Not!. These are once again the views of biased and attention-seeking individuals saying anything for a bit of controversial publicity....

Lewis is error prone, but in two years he has shown that he has outscored any other driver on points and i believe he triumphed in a car that wasnt as quick as the Ferrari. Alonso showed in 07 his talent but was overcome by a 'rookie'. No denying Alonso is quick but Ferrari have never had a pair of drivers capable of competing with each other (Schumacher-Irvine) (Schumacher-Barrichello) (Schumacher-Massa) (Raikkonen-Massa) etc.. Either Massa or Alonso will fail against Lewis

Many F1 insiders now agree amongst themselves that Alonso was NOT treated equally at McLaren despite Ron Dennis lame insistence that he was!! Dennis was only using Alonso as the benchmark to test his "rookie lab-rat", and had invested far too much money to allow Hamilton to fail after he thought he had him fully prepared for F1......Dennis craved the extra kudos he would have benefitted from if his "rookie" beat the double world champion in his first season!!! Despite the emotion/relationship problems Alonso had to deal with during 2007, the fact is they finished on equal points at seasons end, and neither won the title, so whether they were 2nd or 3rd is irrelevant!!!

The thing that annoys me most with alonso is that he is a hypocrit, regarding lewis aggresive overtaking moves. Am sorry but this makes the sport exciting, reminiscent of the schumacher era and remind me in 07 Alonso aggresively forced his was past Massa for the victory!

The key word is could! It is highly unlikely that two different cars will ever have exactly the same level of performance and therefore it will be impossible to ever prove whether one driver in F1 is capable of easily beating another. Both are clearly excellent drivers with Hamilton still perhaps having a tiny bit more potential to extract as his experience develops.Alonso is now the finished article and if both Mclaren and Renault produce good cars they along with Massa should be the three who are most likely to win this years title

LOL LOL!

Well I can remember a rookie in the same car causing Alonso no end of problems in 07!
So maybe with a better car he could beat the boy Lewis!

Everybody says that the team was against Alonso in 2007 after the Hungarian.

Logic says that pre-Hungarian GP they were equal then.

So why was Alonso 10 points behind Lewis going into the race at the Nurburgring?

CANT ARGUE WITH THOSE FACTS CAN YOU?

@ Sam O. I agree with most in your posts. LH does make mistakes but that's because is always flat-out trying. LH was the match of FA when they were both at McClaren and was sometimes faster. If FA does go to Ferrari I think he will be WDC again because 1. Ferrari always build a podium car and 2. He done it before and knows how to gt it done.
