Really? I wonder why he failed to do so in 2007 with the same car and intense scrutiny to ensure fairness of equipment and was beaten by a ROOKIE, the very same Lewis Hamilton. I must say, F1 "commentators" do come out with a pile of rubbish on a frequent basis!

F1 » Alonso 'could beat Hamilton easily'

Double F1 World Champion Fernando Alonso and Ferrari would make 'an exceptional duo' capable of defeating Lewis Hamilton 'easily', it is contended by three of the sport's experts.

The McLaren 2007 case is similar to 1986 Piquet (the father) x Mansell. While the two fought for “I am mr. Number One”, Prost won. Next year, Piquet won the WC. Very funny, and very similar.

Alonso is a great driver, but somewhat distempered. That's his weak point. For a 2 time WC, 8 seasons, he should be more mature. Hamilton is a jewel to be lapidated, and has a great future.

So, correct me if I'm wrong, but did Alonso not finish the 2007 season on exactly the same amount of points as Hamilton - just 1 point behind Kimi? Did he not win 4 races in 2007, the same amount as Hamilton? And was his relationship with the team not so bad that BOTH team AND driver wanted out long before the end of the year?

Yes, he may be childish sometimes with his continued jibes at McLaren. But he is still the best driver out there at the moment.

And don't be thinking I'm some Spanish guy defending my countryman either, because I'm actually British, and it was here that the "Hamilton effect" and the anti-Alonso press was greatest.

Only thing for sure is that having Alonso back in a consistently competitive car would be a great thing for F1. Personally I think Lewis is slightly the quicker, Fernando slightly the less error prone but it would've been one hell of a fight this year if Alonso had remained at McClaren, the only thing for sure is that they are both exceptional talents

And my Mum is better than Alonso - see that's an opinion too......

Talk is cheap - it's the results that matter - Hamilton is champ, Alonso is not

Looks like someone knows your mum Andrew. I don't so I could not possibly comment on whether she is faster than Alonso.
Now what happens if Vettel beats them both (and your mum) in a Red Bull???

I rarely post on these forums anymore because it just gives too many ignorant people a voice. It reminds me of my work where people will say alot of rubbish given the opportunity but when we go up before a judge a lot of that nonsense gets thrown out of court and not mentioned.
Everyone compares LH with FA as if they should be on the same footing, however, in 07 LH was a rookie and FA a double WC and ge got beated. I was watching some old races the other day and saw one where several times FA in the McLaren went off track in his desparation to catch LH.
LH BEAT FA ON MANY TRACKS WHERE LH HAD NEVER DRIVEN ON BEFORE AND ALL THOSE WHO WANT A DEBATE SHOULD TAKE IT INTO CONSIDERATION...

"Dennis was only using Alonso as the benchmark to test his "rookie lab-rat", and had invested far too much money to allow Hamilton to fail"

Lewis's salary in his 1st year in Formula 1 was £250,000 - Alonso? £20 million.
McLarens spending on Lewis's ENTIRE career from junior karting to F1 would amount to about 8 to 12 weeks maximum of Alonso's wages, so invested far too much to allow to fail? Thats just laughable. The sponsorship contract's with ALL teams are heavily increased with success. Telling a sponsor they now sponsor the world champion would bring in extra millions - McLaren dont care which of their drivers win it and neither do the sponsors.
God, some people are just fanboys...
