Really? I wonder why he failed to do so in 2007 with the same car and intense scrutiny to ensure fairness of equipment and was beaten by a ROOKIE, the very same Lewis Hamilton. I must say, F1 "commentators" do come out with a pile of rubbish on a frequent basis!

F1 » Alonso 'could beat Hamilton easily'

Double F1 World Champion Fernando Alonso and Ferrari would make 'an exceptional duo' capable of defeating Lewis Hamilton 'easily', it is contended by three of the sport's experts.

andrew, quite true, and if ferrari had of had the reliability this year, then flip would have beaten lulu. but i think that it is too early in lulus career, to be making statements that could be doubtful. overall, i think that alonso is the better of the two as he is a more rounded driver, but there are others who are the equal or better.

Yes that's the only way for Alonso to beat Hamilton. He needs to drive a better car than Lewis does.Kudos to his former boss for being honest.

yes rich ard you are correct. if you take out the media numbers that influence the ratings for Alonso and Lewis there are at least 4 other drivers of equal talent.

Wow, 3 former Alonso frontmen pick Alonso over Hamilton, who would have seen that coming. Next report will be the sky is blue, the sun is hot and F1 has cars. Crash has become masters of the obvious.

To say Alonso would EASILY beat Hamilton is just showing stupidity and ignorance.
Nobody wins in F1 easily. Alonso + Ferrari would be a formidible combination and may beat the Hamilton/McLaren package, but until he puts pen to paper on a Ferrari contract we'll never know.
One thing I would say is that the past has shown that Alonso isn't a 'team player'. if Ferrari do sign him Massa is going to be out-the-door immediately because Alonso cannot be in a team with a driver as competitive as himself.
All the Alonso fanboys talk about McLaren conspiracy against Alonso but WHERE'S THE PROOF? The FIA investigated and found NOTHING WRONG both drivers had the same equipment, so PLEASE get over it.

what the alonso haters on here forget is these arent his words(like 100% of old-and this is old stories are). so taking it out on him is childish at best.

what some of u also forget is, what many here called a disater 07 or poor performance ended up him missing the title and finishing equal on points with his team mate(again the haters never looked at title board or want to forget those 2 great drivers finished equal).

is he more consistant, yes i think so(05 and 06 were up there with most consistant of all time). is he better under pressure- yes.

is fair to compare them now? no, lewis could go to be the best ever. but so could alonso. both are great, why cant FA haters see that?

Jarno, Giancarlo, Jaques all race winners and one a world champion. all team mates to alonso and none have a bad words to say about alonso as a team player. and neither do the team. or his old team boss either. those 3 are probably at massa level or better too, so that is not an issue.

so wheres the proof of him not being a team player? mclaren? there record of fair play is bleak at best. ask Alain, David and juan pablo. its quite obvious things at mclaren were not right. Ron even said he didnt speak to him, yet he still nearly won a title.plus lewis did a great job too.

i think fernando would be better to beat mclaren and ferrari again in the lower funded renault. it holds great value

I would just like to ask everyone in this discussion a simple question that would settle this matter once and for all.

If you have a student in the 5th grade and you move a student from the 1st grade into the same class and at the end of the year they finish with the same result on their exam who is better, the 5th grader or the 1st grader who is in the 5th grade.

Just answer the question honestly???????????????????????????
