Really? I wonder why he failed to do so in 2007 with the same car and intense scrutiny to ensure fairness of equipment and was beaten by a ROOKIE, the very same Lewis Hamilton. I must say, F1 "commentators" do come out with a pile of rubbish on a frequent basis!

F1 » Alonso 'could beat Hamilton easily'

Double F1 World Champion Fernando Alonso and Ferrari would make 'an exceptional duo' capable of defeating Lewis Hamilton 'easily', it is contended by three of the sport's experts.

Yeah, okay. So during the 2007 season, when Lewis' was an F1 neophyte, why didn't Alonso beat Lewis? I agree that Alonso has won more championships than Lewis, but there has been no better driver on the grid since 2007. Raikkonen and Alonso should have been able to put Lewis in a dress, as well as Massa. Other drivers should be happy Lewis isn't already a two-time champion! On the other hand, Lewis could be a two-time runner up as well!

This would bring back the sport: an epic battle between "mortal enemies" Fernando and Lewis, and Ferrari and McLaren. Bring it on! :D

great. another thread to get everyone stirred b4 the season starts.
FACT (all u poms going 2 hate this) - majority of u started watching F1 when LH started in the 2007 season. He does well, u all forget about ur beloved Jenson (who should not get a drive this yr cause he is so over-rated). Lewis without a doubt has huge talent. But forever is he a product of Mclaren. They own his soul ppl. "I want to drive for Mclaren 4 ever, i want to marry Ron, blah blah"
FACT (LH and FA finished exact same points 2007, i still think KR should of done more 2 win the 2007 title). LH and FA both won 5 races, both involved in scandals, should we really be comparing the 2? I say bring on renaunt vs mclaren.

What did Ron Dennis mean in 2007 by making the statement: We are racing Alonso?

I still don't understand. Wasn't Alonso part of his team? Can the Hami fans answer please?

Or did Ron Dennis not make the statement?

dont get me wrong i think alonso would have been champion in 08 because the Ferrari was such a superior car . Alonso is in his comfort zone when he is unchallanged or when cicumstances fall right for him. but we have seen it twice. in 06 and 07 that when there is challange to be faced he resorts to childish slagging off tactics rather then actualy pushing the limit of the car like a real racer should. he will probably win due to consistany hes much like prost (boring to watch but metronomicaly consistant ) to say hes much better then hamilton is a rather silly statment though when u look at the facts of 07. there is still time yet we shall see in time if he really is that good

which side of the fence..... you must be a very proud Aussie with your cricket team and rugby league team and Cadel Evans and Olympic team to start having a go at "poms". That gives your aussie trait away, you are a typical thick aussie.Talking of over rated F1 drivers, hows your Mark Webber going???? Just how many podiums has he got in his 160 race career????

Let''s take a look

Hamilton in F1 for 2 years

Beats Alonso both years the first Hamiltons "rookie" year.

Sure at the moment Alonso may be slightly more consistant but give Hamilton time and he we be even better than.....better than Alonso

I take a shot at your question, JJ.

Ron Dennis felt like Alonzo had taken steps that could quite possibly ruin him.

In light of the facts that he was forced to disclose (due to FA's threat to disclose them), McL was to get zero points toward the manufacturer's championship and a 500M! fine. Nothing in sports has come close to this debacle.

I would argue that spying (using the designs of others in a sport that is design-driven) is a much worse crime than being disloyal to your team, but surely one can see where Ron stood on the matter.

“he was forced to disclose” had he (Ron that is) been a sporty type of the fellow the McLaren would not be disciplined. I don not believe he had no knowledge of what his engineers were up to. The fine has been proportionate to the damages that Ferrari outfit has sustained. If you don't believe me just try to guess how much they spend on R&D each year. In your opiniob should that go unpunished? I think they got of too easy. As far as where Ron stood on this there is no doubt in my mind that he was in the middle of it.
