One of the key partners in Donington Park's £100 million British Grand Prix re-development plans has admitted that it is far from the ideal economic climate in which to be trying to raise funding for the project.

dprac...

I honestly would love to eat my words...

I sincerely hope that we manage to keep an F1 GP in Britain. But everyone knows that Bernie won't think twice about shifting the ironically named 'F1 circus' to the highest bidder abroad given the chance of a few more dollars in the bank.

Donnington have set themselves a massive task and still don't know where the money is coming from?!?!

If I told the wife we were going to have a custom built 12 bedroom mansion in the Yorkshire dales in 24 months but didn't actually know who was going to pay for it, I'd be sleeping with the dog for a year or two.

Basically, we need F1 in Britain I don't care where its hosted

Yes, those involved in the decision making at Silverston will have to take some of the blame if the British GP is lost. They knew that Bernie would go elsewhere if they did not sign on the dotted line. :)

sunny, without knowing the full story, BE was, each year, demanding expensive improvements to silverstone, and then wanted more money for taking his circus there. there comes a time when the costs far exceed the possible income, and i guess silverstone had reached that point. in other words, why spend 100m when the return is only going to be 80m? pure economics. and silverstone is not backed by billionaire investors. i may be wrong, but the brdcc would have fervently wished to guarantee a british gp.

I'll play the Devils' Advocate here. Bernie has every right to take his "show" where ever He wants to. Perhaps losing the British GP will be the final straw that causes the FOTA and the Fans to Revolt and Dispose of the GLB. If it takes the Brit's GP to do it. Fine. Take one for the Team Guys :) Down with Bernie! Down with Max!

Sunny you always crack me up. Silverstone is a privately run concern unlike most government backed european circuits that cannot afford to keep making a loss. Bernies excuse that the facilities are poor is also known to be rubbish, just look at Brazil!

I can't see Donington finishing in time or sourcing the cash, however if they do get started they will have plenty of building firms to choose from at the moment and should get a good deal!

British as I am...if Donnington doesn't work out I'd rather we not have a Grand Prix than to go back to shabby embarrassing Silverstone.

Perhaps then and only then will someone think 'whoops we better pull our fingers out of our behinds and actually do something here!!!''

I've been to Silverstone many times and cannot believe how a developed nation like ourselves cannot manage to have a Grand Prix circuit that is World Class...
Hmm then again I take my mind back to Wembley Stadium.... what a fiasco that was!!!

In regards to my post, when I say 'World Class' I didn't mean the layout of the track and the racing spectacle, the infrastructure and the venue as a whole is the problem.
Dated and screwing the fans for cash spring to mind with no return.

Bernie said it in a nutshell. He stated that when other countries are interested in hosting a GP he would love to take them to look around the British circuit to get an idea.. NOT have to steer them away and look at some other countries circuit!!

Bernie I'm sure would love to show them round a decent well invested British Grand Prix circuit as he is British himself. Shame he has to bend arms in all sorts of ways to get what Britain should already have!

Perhaps Bernie doesn't understand the meaning of the law of diminishing returns. At least 4 multi-billionaires have taken their own lives over the few weeks. Max & Bernie should follow their example to save the sport.

In my opinion i just think Bernie does not want an F1 race to be hold in England fullstop!
The poisoned dwarf (Bernie) got rid of Silverstone so it could go to Donington park in the hope it would fail, so then he can pull the plug on the British Grand prix in the hope he can take his F1 circus elsewhere!
Bernie just wants to go where the money is, and yet he does not have the teams and most impotantly of all us the fans interests at heart!
If Bernie messes up the sport then fine, but then a rival series which is fair to all could be created to rival F1 and bring back the entertainment we all are looking for!
Times are changing, even Ferrari have turned against their biggest fan (Bernie)!
