I was fortunate to attend the first meeting at the re-opened Donington and unlike Derek Brown above I can say that the facilities then were excellent, all brand new, covered toilets,a then impressive paddock and wonderful viewing from virtually all the way around the track.Yes as time has moved on these facilities have not improved and at a recent private test day I was apalled at the present state of the infrastructure. To say it was awful from day one is simply not true however as one who at the time('77) had to endure the offerings at Oulton,Mallory and Silverstone can confirm. The biggest problem like mosr British tracks is that they have had no state funding and cannot therefore compete.

A green light is much different than the greenbacks that they will need to complete the project. I am curious how this is going to "ruin" the Motogp? The track extension seems like an enhancement.

Well good luck to them I say, I hope that Simon Gillett can prove Silverstone and those stuffy BRDC types wrong.

Whatever Donington do to the track it can't be any worse than Silverstone.

I for one wish him the very best of luck.

Good on you mate, I agree. There's always so much negativity in the UK, give the bloke a bloody chance for God's sake.

Those guys at the BRDC need a kicking, they're so pompous and arrogant, someone like Simon Gillett will give them something to think about once the GP at Donington is a roaring success.

However I must admit that raising the funding is certainly going to be a challenge, I think that the planning will be the least of his concerns, raising the cash will be his Everest.

I agree that the proposed changes will be for the better. MotorcycleNews (MCN) ran a feature
on such changes. IIRC, most riders gave it the thumbs up sighting that the 'Foggy Esses' for one
would not be missed.

Excellent news! The British Grand Prix may be saved after all: and Britain may now get a world class facility that we deserve. For all those doubters out there let's see how quickly the construction work begins...

Yeah that's true, the traffic will be chaos but haven't they said that everyone will be brought in by bus, that'll be a laugh, also they're going to close the airport, that'll be another miracle.

Hey, maybe this Simon Gillett is actually God and that he'll turn the *****hole that we know as Donington into the Monaco of the north, all I know is that if he fails he might as well curl up in Rock and die because his name will be muck just like the Donington Park he's bought.

I hope that Donington prove the doubters wrong and that the 2010 British GP will be the best there's ever been, get a life everyone and give them the support they need. Simon Gillett is to be applauded and supported for taking this gargantuan task on, it's true if he fails it'll be sad and disappointing for agreat many people but he deserves everyone's support.

Have any of you met a BRDC member? Believe me if you had you'd want him to succeed more than anything else in the world, they're a bunch of idiots and that's being very polite.

There may be a few rotten apples amongst us but we all mean well and want the very best for Silverstone.
