When I go to a race,I want my car there so I can take cameras, food and drink, spare clothing and also to store any items I may buy, books, models, programmes and so on.The car becomes my base while at the race.If taking your car is not permitted, although the track is only 45 minutes from my home I shall not be attending. In the 21st century we should be making an expensive event more welcoming for the punters not less so!I accept there will be traffic difficulties when I visit a big sporting event in a relatively remote location and plan accordingly, with these arrangements I will only be able to take what I can carry!

Tim, if you are taking more than you can carry you need to have a word with yourself. This is a single-venue sporting event not a trek through the jungle.

F1 at Donington (only accessable via parachute) and MotoGP at Silverstone (Maximum binocular zoom required).

Eccelstone and Dorna need shooting!

Tim, Gillet has said that a small amount of parking at the track will be available but at a price and you will have to buy your parking ticket when you buy your race admission ticket. Or you could buy a camping ticket and you can take your car in with you, but then you are stuck there all weekend, or you could become a VIP for the day - but that will cost you. Or you could buy a bigger rucksack ...

Unless they build a spur off the motorway and build car parks all the way round the track for 50,000 cars then maybe the Donington GP is not for you ...

Or maybe they will allow you, just you, to park right on the old hairpin ...

To Piercarlo and Frank,I have been attending races in this country for getting on for 40 years. It is a leisure event not a challenge in stamina.I will be paying a lot of hard earned money to go to Donington and I want it to be on my terms not the organisers who perhaps should have thought of this rather major issue before they got involved.I can only presume the two of you will travel in just the clothes you stand up in without any of the things I mentioned above? At every race meeting I have ever attended there are people carrying cameras, picnic bags, seats and umbrellas. How easy will that be if your car is at the Derby ground and you have to queue for a bus to get back there?

Tim, firstly if I do go, yes I will be going in just the clothes I stand up in as I live in Donington Village! But seriously I know (because for non-motorsport reasons I do something similar) that humping a well-packed 60-litre rucksack from car to bus (200 metres?) and from bus to viewing point (800 metres?) is not the most arduous activity known to man (or at least this fairly unfit 47-year-old). You've also said 'I will be paying...to go to Donington' so from your personal position the deal's done, you WILL put up with it, and lets face it if you have been attending UK races for 40 years, if the sun shines that day there will probably be 1000 less enjoyable motorsport days in your life.

One bit in gillets statement that I find hard to believe is '6000 car parking spaces at Derby County' which is closer to 600! The biggest owner of useable tarmac locally is probably R-R in Derby, a 20 min bus ride away.

Actually no I will not be going,it was just a figure of speech.I live about 45 minutes away from Donington and attended the first meeting at the revamped track in '77.My routine has been to use my car as a base and by parking as close to the perimeter as possible it was always there as a base or as a refuge in bad weather!I accept that the crowd will be bigger at the GP and I may have to park a bit further away but the one thing Donington has is lots of fields around it.Surely these could be utilised and most farmers I know would not be averse to making some extra cash? I no longer have the stamina I once had,I need to be catered for,not put off!
