Like the 1999 barge-boards in Malaysia, I suspect the red car will soon find itself legal again.

Eh people... its pre-season testing.. they can run any specification they please... you do realise the point of competitive Engineering challenges such as F1 is about exploiting the grey area's, the loopholes and 'bending' the rules as far as possible?

stig and bdogo, you are right. it is hard to fathom why people are saying that the cars being tested are the same as what will appear at melbourne. i dobt that ferrari would turn up there, knowing that there car was illegal. maybe mclaren will turn up using the illegal rear wing that they are using in testing, or RBR will turn up with last years car. when the rules clearly state that exhausts should be covered, it is not credible that ferrari would make such a fundamental mistake. my guess is that they are assessing pipe temperatures, and will then finalise bodywork.

But there hasn't been a team, as of yet, that has presented an illegal specification car at it's launch. Would of been funny though to see the 08 wing on Mclarens launch and the 08 car when RBR announce theirs.

Illegal only because the other teams didn't have the information they had from Ferrari like in previous years... :-o
If whatever they did to their exhaust is illegal (we still don't know exactly what the illegal issue really is), and if they use it in the first race and if it actually is considered illegal tehn there could be a problem... right now it:s only "if's" .

ok, has anyone actually read the F1 rule, next to every rule there is a *. I quote:

"* unless the car is and Italian team and Red"

Therefore the Ferrari is not illegal, gosh I wish these people would read the rule book properly.

What lousy strategists. If I thought my competitor had something illegal, I would wait till the season was under way and notify the scrutineers. I would not YELL about it in the media weeks in advance of race 1, giving them more than enough time to conform.
