Practice Patter - Austrian Grand Prix

David Coulthard:

''I had a satisfying and constructive free practice where we developed the car a lot. We look to be in good shape for another competitive weekend after having found a good set up for the car, and I'm looking forward to tomorrow's qualifying and Sunday's race.''

Mika Hakkinen:

''The fuel pump on my car developed a problem at the beginning of this morning's session, which meant I lost some valuable time, after I had to pull over after only half a lap. Fortunately, we managed to get through a lot of work in the second session, and I'm quite pleased with the balance.''

Mika Salo:

''That was a good session for us. The car was fine, no problems at all and the driveability is now so much better. I worked mainly on mechanical and engine settings today and the car responded well to every change that we made. I'm happy with the way things are going.''

Michael Schumacher:

''The car is not perfect, but almost. I can be in the top four on the grid. We did the usual Friday job of preparing ourselves for the race, working on set up and other matters. The balance is reasonable. I used three sets of new tyres today, because I felt like it! We still have to do more work in this area tomorrow. As for the track, it is a bit slippery and they have changed the kerbs since last year. I am sure qualifying will be very close indeed. I could be first or fourth. It will be a long race on Sunday. We are well prepared for that and we will have to see how competitive we are.''

Ricardo Zonta:

''I'm really happy with today's running, not so much because of the positions but because I was able to spend two hours improving all the time. When you have problems with the car, you spend all your energy making the problem better, not focusing on your driving. I was able to look at the telemetry today and say, 'I'm losing two tenths in the corner,' then changing my line and making up the time. We started the session with a very good set-up and I think we could have a good result tomorrow.''

Jarno Trulli:

''It's been a pretty good day. I have been working on the race and a little bit on qualifying. Straight away, the car felt competitive, with a good balance. We followed the right direction when developing the set-up. I know where we can improve further, so I'm confident for tomorrow. We can already see that it's going to be very competitive near the front of the grid, so I'm not going to make any predictions at this stage! But I'm pretty happy so far.''

Rubens Barrichello:

''As this is a circuit where we do not test, you go quicker with every lap you do and the tyres also seem to improve lap by lap. I am happy with the balance on my car. On this track you need to find the right balance between aerodynamic and mechanical grip. If you run with low downforce to pick up speed on the straights, you run the risk of having problems in the slower corners. I am happy with what we have achieved today.''

Jacques Villeneuve:

''The car didn't feel great to drive today, but I guess it's working well anyway. Judging your position after Friday's practice is always risky and we don't know what the other teams are doing, but I think we're in pretty good shape. This isn't a difficult track to drive, although they have changed the kerbs so that you can't drive over them anymore - I preferred them as they were last year.''

Pedro Diniz:

''We did a lot of work on race settings today and the car felt pretty good. We found something in the aerodynamic set-up that has made it a lot better here; it seems much more efficient. I think it is well suited to this track, but we'll see for sure tomorrow.''
