Four rival F1 teams played an important role in getting Renault off the hook and enabling Fernando Alonso to compete on home turf in Valencia this weekend, the FIA has revealed.

@Buddy - I don't think that the rules were changed as Renault was still penalized. The rules do not state that a team has to be banned for an unsafe pit release. If that were the case Red Bull would have been banned twice now for releasing their car into the path of another car. As it was they were just reprimanded.

I am really surprised that so many people are in favor of a ban. Bans are not good for the sport and should only be used for the most serious offenses, such as cheating. I realize that we are used to seeing the FIA increase a penalty if someone appeals but thankfully those dictatorial ways seem to be part of the past.
