alan. so i was NEARLY right!.. when moss won the mille miglia, the reason was that he had jenks beside him, with a rolling map of pace notes! the precursor of modern rallying pace notes. but you are right. sportsmanship does not exist in modern motor racing, all thanks to commercialisation.
